Sounds like a marvelous time.  I anticipate in a few days, once the hangovers have gone away, we will hear more!

This thread is useless without pics!!!!!!!!!

There were lots of cameras out last night. Definitely photographic evidence this time and even some video interviews by Steve Timko.

Well, Back in Boston after the whirlwind weekend!  I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their participation, for their opinions during the planning process, and especially to the entire LeVine family whose warmth and generosity is unparalleled!  Both events were terrific fun (though a few glasses of wine after being up for 20 hours on Friday made me a little (or possibly more than a little, by some reports) unsteady .  I also appreciate the resourcefulness of a few intrepid CTers who went to 7-11 to get some coffee when none was available on Saturday (my oversight, sorry).  I (and others) took some pictures and will try to get them up.  May need some technical advice for this.

I also have cards and will list the wines at both events (hopefully with a link next to it).  I'm not sure that everyone filled one out and some are difficult to read, but I'll do my best to get them all. If the wine(s) you brought on either night do not appear please PM (or email) me and I'll update the list.

It was really great to meet you all.  These events were not about the wine from my perspective but rather about enjoying the company of  interesting, generous  people who all share the same passion.  What a community!

Will get to work on this stuff over the next few days, but now I need to get some rest.
Craig

Maybe our best-ever weekend getaway.  The weather was gorgeous, we did a bunch of "touristy" stuff like Pike's and the Market, Ch. Ste Michelle, Canlis and of course, the great CT get-togethers.  Let's do this again, please!

First batch of photo's here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/16082193@N05/sets/72157607182739241/detail/

I think this album is open and public so you can add more pics or comments to the group.

The first pic is of some of the other guests trying to get to Seattle before my wife and I got there.

We ended up passing them.   :)

Weird.  Read this page.   http://www.romanee-conti-evinite.com/memo/english/history_romanee_conti.htm

"The vines of the part of Romanée Conti were entirely replanted in 1945, following the epidemic of will phylloxéra. No wine has been produced from 1946 to 1951."

Does anyone know which Christoffel Riesling we had on Saturday night?  I remember that it was an 88 and that it was absolutely fabulous but a CT search for Christoffel Riesling brings up an entire page.

I remember it being an Auslese but cannot remember if it was from a specific vineyard.  When I go through the cards, hopefully I'll be able to give you more info.  That was my WOTN.

I didn't taste it, but it can say for certain it was a Jos. Christoffel Jr. (Christoffel-Prüm), and as I recall from a quick glance at the label it was a Auslese * (one star) from Wehlener Sonnenuhr. I also recall that it was AP#11 (that is just the fuder number), as I had a long conversation with a few folk about the potential importance of that portion of the AP# (they were incredulous). That would make it this: http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=260465

Note that the AP# listed by kstoddard has to be incorrect--a 1988 can;t have an AP# ending in 84 as that designates the year it was submitted for the AP#. It was most certainly 89 for the bottle we had.

They were shifting.  That's how the photographer avoids being in the picture. Photoshop also helps.  But perhaps someone else's pics caught a shot?

From my perspective, here’s what made these gatherings so great:
Of course, the wine.  Cannot wait to see the comprehensive list and let it trigger those palatal memories.  Delicious food must also be mentioned.  Two great venues, The Hideaway was perfect and the LeVine home is beautiful.  But most importantly, the people.  As cliché as it sounds, what a nice, fun, eclectic group!  A lot of knowledge with no snobbery.  If there was a sommelier or winery rep in the crowd, you’d never know it.  In fact, what made this group so special is the simple organic nature of how this all came together. Anyone that shares the passion is welcome.  This was no corporate sponsored social event.  No promotion to be had.  No profit to be made for anyone (except the caterer, which was splendid). No ivory tower CEO to hand down edicts about “where we’re heading”, etc.  It could be the incubus for some little society but none of us had that in mind, either.  No, we just love wine.  And we really love this little website that asks for nothing, but offers a rich, un-biased experience that connects us all to our favorite moment of the day: a drink of wine.

Eric, I am humbled by your note of thanks.  Please know how much Brigit and I appreciated the whole weekend.  Thank you too, Craig.  Cheers!

Bob

I'm curious to hear impressions of the Quilceda Cabs. Saw one note from RoundersRob. Eric? Anybody else?

I'm generally a particular fan of these older Quilcedas, and am always looking to add bottles to the cellar, especially since they can sometimes be found at prices less than the recent releases.

Not sure which note you saw.  Mine were based on the 93 / 95 from a 750ml and not the magnum of 95 that was at the Saturday event.  With 15 or so years of age, I could easily mistake these QC cabs for bordeaux of equal age.   That is definitely not the case on the younger ones, which are much more lush and fruit forward and as Eric told us, made in a much different style.  For the major differences I would defer to Eric, the local expert on Quilceda Creek.

Our 2000 was indeed corked.

The 1993 was pulled from the rack, popped and poured right in a 55 degree cellar, and despite that it offered up a great nose, very Bordeaux-like, much less floral/blueberry than some vintages of Quilceda, trending more towards the underbrush and currant bush. A lean vintage, this was light and fresh on the palate with great mineral notes and excellent acidity. The 1993 is never a bruiser Quilceda and it the antithesis of the modern ones, but I thought it was a lovely clean Cabernet that definitely pays more homage to Bordeaux than to Napa.

The successive 1995's really wanted aeration, definitely deeper, darker, more brooding and dusky than the much more mature 1993. I prefered the magnum on the second night, and it definitely seemed to hint at the more violet/floral elements that Quilceda can offer. That said, while I had a bottle of the 1995 about 6 months ago that blew me away these were both solid but hardly world-shaking. Solid lower-90's cab.

Like everyone else, I had an incredible time.  Thanks to Eric and Craig for the outstanding job and the hospitality.  As you could tell from the photos, I was certainly having a good time; maybe too good of a time.  Naw!  How can you have too good of a time with wonderful people who share a common interest.

I did come away with a colossal case of cellar envy and a great respect for everyone of you.

I do feel some empathy for Yipen who will soon be starting an expat assignment in mainland China.  My experience was that good wine was hard to find.

I wanted to make sure that I thanked everybody connected with this event, but alas, I have a memory like no other.

To Eric - You were a gracious host and you made sure that everyone was comfortable.... both at your beautiful home and at the Hideaway.

To Craig - Thanks for all of the hard work and the great attitude.  I can't even imagine how you kept track of all of the details... working with Eric, the caterer and all of us.

To Fingers and the Wine Goddess , Rob and Lisa,  for the photos and stimulating conversations.

Plano Wino, Yipen, Ron and Derik, ? and Thom (I'm drawing a blank on this one, but he had a camera and was into Ports and Pinots) - For the lively conversation and friendly smiles.

I know that I'm missing a lot of people and I apologize for the omission, but I was drinking
