Looking at current prices on CT it looks like this may be somewhat of a bargain in the US (WineBid price), unless prices have just jumped.

This is info from one of my suppliers:

"Up-graded from 93-95 to a massive 97 points 2005 Malescot St Exuperyhas not only has been described by Robert Parker as the "estate's finest effort - ever" but he has also suggested that it, "should only get better" and receive an even higher score in the future.
...this magnificent Margaux is tremendous value for money and a must buy.

"...the greatest vintage produced during my 30-year career..." Robert Parker, www.erobertparker.com

2005

Malescot St Exupery

97pts (RP)

"This estate’s finest effort - ever, the 2005 Malescot St.-Exupery should be sought out by readers looking for intensity combined with superb richness, fascinating elegance, and a surreal concoction of blue and red fruits, a silky texture, and a delicate yet powerful wine that builds incrementally, never becoming overwrought. This dense purple-colored, medium to full-bodied tour de force in winemaking is already displaying remarkable complexity. It should only get better over the next decade, and will last through 2030. I would not be surprised to see this wine merit a few more points with additional aging" "

I checked around and the price appears to have gone up 2X - 2.5X since the Parker review. Way to go, Parker

If you're with Parker (and I know many aren't) you'll be buying St. Emilion for 2007:
8 of his top 11 picks (inc. 1st and 2nd).
Suckling had just 2 (only one the same - Pavie of course).
Jancis only 3 (agreeing on just Pavie as well!).

I know that I frequently blame Parker for many things, but that is not my intent.  It's my frustration to the market reaction to his ratings.

Don't get me wrong.... I still believe that Parker is culpable in many cases.  He knows the effect that his ratings have and as such he has an obligation to do what he can to stop, or slow the speculation that has been driving prices sky high.

The average person, me included, has been priced out of many areas simply due to his ratings.  I know that there are many fine wines out there, but the sheer number of his ratings has gotten so large that it's very difficult to find a good wine before he rates it and the price skyrockets.

What can Parker do to stop speculation and the lemming-like frenzy created by his reviews?  I share your frustration, but I think the fault lies with the end user.  Can't do much to protect oneself in the European regions, but being on the mailing list of a top US producer is a great way to guard against "grade inflation."  You build loyalty with the winery, get your allocation, and if the wine gets a great write-up, you got first dibs.  Then you can sit back and watch the value escalate after the reviews come out.  But, you have to be willing to take the good with the bad.  Generally the "bad" isn't bad at all, just less than spectacular.  Oh well.

There's way too much great (affordable) wine out there to worry about Parker reviews.

PP want to sell me just a one bottle? If not you could share it with me when you open yours???
No wine retailers in DC area has this wine or Rauzan Seglas, I am in a hunt.

I love the 05 Margaux....  tried 05 Issan, boyd, Brane Cantenac (in a decending order) it was awsome, anyone try Rauzan Segla? Lascombs? Palmer? Kirwan?

Pavie Princess = Baller~ Most I ever bought was 20 bottles of same wine (hundred acres ancient way summer's block 2004) Cause it was a good deal and tasted fantastic, but nothing like 60 bottles

Are you a retailer?

No to the retailer question, but we are looking into opening a high end wine bar concept to the Southeast.  I love to buy it and drink it.  My hubby likes to drink it if he likes or sell our more mature wines and have the babies fill their spots.

we have 120 bottles pending delivery of this wine.  They will be sealed in OWC.  If I open one I might consider selling it but generally I dont open full cases until the wine is ready.  This wine wont be for 15-20 yrs.  I got to taste in in Bdx last yr.  Its pretty stellar and why we bought it then.  I had no idea it would go to a 97.

he already did help the specualtion by underscoring the big wines at the top.  The score he gave Margaux was obscene.  That wine is far superior to Ausone and it got 98 points.  The top of the bdx pyramid got hit pretty hard and with 06 and 07 vintages looking terrible I think the future business will leave the negiciants with a ton of stock they cant sell for a long time.  See 1997.  The media hype of 2005 allowed the price escalation.  The quality of the top of 05 and the badness of 06 and 07 will kill pricing in a few yrs.  I think you'll have time to buy some great wine cheaper in the next 5 yrs.  Pricing is not sustainable unless you are Mr Jeff Leve.  I would tell every collector to buy old good vinatages first and wait on the new until this issue settles out.

Pavie Princess this is exactly what I am doing! Pavie Princess I am not a big baller like you, I am young I have tried lots of Bordeaux from 2000 - Present.  To me wine prices are too ridiculous, so I changed my buying strategy to buy old Bordeaux and got lots of 02, 04 due to the pricing.
I only buy one or two bottles of 05 bordeaux I really really want, so incase the price goes really high I can at least try it once.

I would rather pay $120 for 1981 leoville las case and drink it at its full maturity than pay $120 for 2004 pavie and drink it now and be immensely disapointed
