Another doctor here - radiologist.  Wife is an ENT surgeon.

Here in the northeast we don't get those freebies the drug companies give out elsewhere...at least not radiologists.  Since we don't write prescriptions for medication (and therefore don't bring any money to the drug companies) they don't bribe us...I mean solicit us...I mean...I don't know what I mean, but I'd sure take a bottle of wine over the box of pens the GE rep dropped off last week.

Ooohhh!  Will you be joining us for the CT party in September?  Every so often I get a client with Canadian income and I never quite know what the heck I'm supposed to do.

Thank goodness, I don't have one anymore.  Now I have more time to spend pouring money into wine and pouring wine into glasses.  Retirement is heaven on earth.

My first post. I'm a boatbuilder and my wife is a program director for Sun Microsystems. I may make the event. We will be in Seattle the week before on a previously planned vacation.

Thinking about it, but not ready to commit yet. If you are serious I can give you a good referral in Vancouver.

Litigator in Singapore. Too far on the other side of the planet to even consider popping by Seattle.

Anyone thinking of having a get together in South East Asia anytime? Are there even enough people on Cellartracker in our part of the world?

There's Wrighty in Hong Kong.
Other than that we have the drops of god (Sung Jin Park) but he's in the States (I think)
and WK Choy and Kwoksun (Fred Lee), don't know where they reside.
Apologies if I got anyone wrong.
L.

PS  And there's thousands who aren't active on the forum but I suspect they love wine (bet Singapore has quite a few).

We have quite an active community in Singapore, with chapters of the IFWS, the Confrerie as well as the Commanderie and quite a few prominent wine writers and collectors. We don't get our wines cheap though!

It would be nice to see how many other Singaporeans or other South-East Asians are on CT. Is there a way to spin a report on that?

Wow, I was surprised how few senior, super (and mega) trackers there are here! This must have really been a quiet forum until recently!

You're right, but I found that talking to yourself leads to a good quality of conversation.
There is the danger of going barking mad though

I sometimes think people have better things to do!
L.

PS  More seriously it's much better now and the Seattle/London/Singapore thing has brought the lurkers out, which is real nice, if only to know they exist.

This is Eric's fault. He needed rude awakening from Squires to realise the importance of CT community to CT  itself.

Better late than never.

haha, thanks. I actually meant on CT itself, and not the forums. Might be interesting to have a demographic based on geographical location.

Well of the people who publicise their whereabouts, and participate on the forum, I've noted this rough breakdown:
USA        42
UK            9
Canada      4
Australasia 2
1 each from Latvia, Italy, France, Eire, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Singapore, Hong Kong and Arabia
EU             1  (yes Bill won't be any more tied down)

Eric is working on a more complete analysis of all CT people, but I'm interested in the people who participate here and help out with my learning about the wines of the world.

Colonel, I guess I make up one of the 4 Canucks in your stat.  Have you tried any of our home grown wines?  Although I did just return from 4 fun years in Washington, DC (technically Bethesda, Maryland).  Keeping with the original tone of this forum, I am an assistant [rookie] professor.

Richard - I recently purchased a couple bottles of '03 Osoyoos Larose Le Grand Vin.. Dying to try it but reluctantly should (will) let it cellar for a couple more years first..

Ron,
Embarrassingly I have yet to try Osoyoos.  Maybe that will change this weekend?  Besides a couple ice wines and late harvests, I have yet to have my socks knocked off by a local vintage.  I hope that changes soon … eh.

Cheers,
Richard

I am the senior technical advisor for a nutritional supplement/fuel company that focuses on endurance athletes. After 8+ years with the company I am making a decent salary but it never seems to be enough to satisfy my wine purchasing desires!

Yep, spotted you:

There are a number of academics/scientists out there, but you're outnumbered by the IT guys and Physicians as far as I can see.
With Seattle coming up I was wondering who get's involved here so paid a bit of attention to this:
we have ex-spooks, firefighters, spindoctors, all sorts of exciting people and even our own
'International Man of Mystery'.  And I hope you've said hello to the ex-NRHA division, six up, dragster racer, from W.Canada.
Sadly I have zero experience of Canadian wine, but considering I have only bought single bottle of Californian too date that's not surprising.  My great hope -one day - is to buy an appartment in NJ (close enough to NYC) and build a little cellar of wines of your continent.
L.

You work in an office too--its just surrounded by food, pots, knives, rather than band aids, gauze, and lubrication jelly.  Wow, when I think about what surrounds me, I'd rather be in a kitchen

I was impressed with the breadth of talent our fellow CTers have:

stock trader
engineer
boatbuilder
fire fighter
political adviser
public speaker
litigator
horse breeder
drag racer
winemaker
interior designer
sommelier
researcher

Haven't found the butcher, baker and candlestick makers yet, but I'm sure they're out there.
