In anticipation of the First Annual CellarTracker weekend, I thought it might be fun if we got to see what folks do for a "day job", since there are probably few of us who can afford our "wine habits" on a wine-industry paycheck...

Could be just me that's interested but thought I'd throw the thread out there anyway!

For myself, I've been in the technology sector for the past 20 years, specifically in finance at HP (well, to be fair, I started at Digital Equipment, which was acquired by Compaq, which was acquired by HP).  It's been a pretty good gig in that it allows me to dabble in several hobbies, not the least of which is my wine habit... I raise horses and build equestrian buildings and my hubby is a neurosurgeon.

I've been a software engineer for the last 12 years, 8 of which at the same company.  Done everything from the boring enterprise software I do now to the computer games I used to do back in the late 90s..

Prior to that I was in military intelligence for 6 years.  (yes I know that is an oxymoron)

Of course, I'm not much of a regular poster here... but as is said in my profile, I just finished medical school, and start residency in June.  Hope to work as an oncologist in a few years.

That being said, even with a $200,000 student debt and making less than $50,000 a year for the next six years, one can still afford to enjoy some very fine wines with friends.  It's all about finding the good value vinos and knowing good vino people :)

born in 82!  nice..  great year and lots of good wines to celebrate with from that year.

I'm a tax consultant.  My wife does the same thing, though on a part time basis.  The rest of her time is spent chasing two little kids (ours, before you ask).  My income is not high enough to satisfy my wine habit, but I suspect I'd have to be CEO at a Fortune 500 company for that!

married to doc trust me you will have plenty of chance to drink fine wine free............drug reps implant reps and your staff docs parties............you will have no issue drinking juice

CPA/Financial Planner, offices in Oregon and Scottsdale (Where I am depends on the weather).  Have been working on Oregon Pinot Noir's for last few years and am still sipping and learning.

I'm a general internist north of Boston and seem to miss most of those drug reps being implanted at my parties with good wines.  But then again, I'm no brain surgeon [image]http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/image/s1.gif[/image]  PP, if your husband comes in September, I'll have to get some tips from him [image]http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/image/s4.gif[/image]

On the side I am the medical director at a nursing home, medical consultant at a psychiatric hospital, and I moonlight nights in an intensive care unit. 

In my spare time I help to plan wine festivals 3000 miles across the country!  Yikes...

I do math for a living.  It's mostly reliability and statistics.  I calculate the warranty reserves for a large (very) disk drive company.  It pays well, but my wife likes to sail... which doesn't leave too much for wine[image]http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/image/s13.gif[/image]  CT helps me to identify good deals.

Wow, another HP'er in the bunch.  I am research chemist with HP.  Been there 14 years now in inkjet, as you might guess, but I've never worked in ink.  I'm off to MIT for a couple of years on sabbatical.

Retired stock trader, not as lucrative as a retired p-o-r-n traffic broker.
newbie in wine. golf, poker, and keeping an eye on 2 kids (15 year boy, 13 year girl).
Can't make the Seattle outing, daughters bat mitzvah.

My first engineering job in USA was for Audio Company. We designed and supplied audio systems for 1/2 casinos in Atlantic City and LaGuardia Airport.

My assets are Norwegian....close! Good eye!
