Awesome!  Cheers to you and your family.
Two more reasons to be thankful.
And thanks for your kind thoughts for our troops (I'm retired military)

Started the day with Mimosa's made with Domaine Carneros Vermeil.  (Yum!)  Went to brunch and had more Mimosa's made with a Cava, not as good.

Just decanted a bottle of 2004 Buoncristiani O.P.C. and figured I'd pop in and say hello while it opened up a bit.  If you aren't aware of this wonderful small winery based out of Napa, you should take a look.  They started as a bonded garage, and are headed towards being another Napa cult wine.

Morning Colonel.

TFI Friday!!!!

I see a weekend ahead of abstinence, excercise and healthy living.  Having said that, it might last until I walk in the front door tonight and the wife is opening a bottle of wine.

The intension is there though

Oh, what a terrible, terrible dinner you must have had. All the work of writing all those TNs...

Next time you can just ask me and I will join you as your Personal Assistant and will collect all your notes and compare them with mine...

I have been vicariously enjoying everyone's tasting notes and stories ... I have been on call this holiday.
36 hours down, 12 hours left.
My friends have been plying me with leftovers, so I have a wonderful feast piling up in my icebox.
The only thing I know for sure is that there will be champagne with breakfast tomorrow AM, maybe some truffled eggs and wild boar sausage.  Then down to the cellar to find my enjoyment for the afternoon and evening.

You know what they say - it's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it

Went out to a favorite local restaurant last night.  My husband talked me out of the $275 bottle of Insignia (which was a 2004 so not a bad mark up at all) and we had a 2005 Chappellet Napa Valley Signature Cabernet Sauvignon instead.  Very closed up at first but it opened fairly quickly once decanted to loads of cherries, red currant, and leather, and a hint of cinnamon on the finish, beautiful balance for a young wine.  I'm going to buy a few bottles of this and cellar it for a couple of years, it's going to be a lovely wine as it gets a bit older with a great QPR.

Had a glass of 10 year Warre Otima Tawny Port with my chocolate something or other dessert.

Again I noted a lack of Old World wines on the list.  Under "Cabernet Sauvignon/Bordeaux Style" there were two French, two South African, One Aussie, one Spanish, one Chilean, one Washington, one Oregon and about 15 Napa/Sonoma wines listed.  The remainder of the wine list was similar.  This is a casual "foodie" restaurant with an emphasis on seasonal fresh foods, reasonable portion sizes and  healthy cooking styles.  Is this a growing trernd, or is it just coincidence that I've run into it two days in a row?

The wife and I celebrated an unofficial anniversary last night and brought a 2000 Insignia out to a local restaurant and finished with a Graham 20 year Tawny.

Tonight....  probably a pinot on the horizon.

i would like to tell you that I recently had the 05 Insignia and the 05 Bacchus and it was the best JP wines I have ever had.  I thought the 05 was superior to the 02 and that is saying alot................if you can source them I would suggest you try it.

2003 E. Guigal Saint Joseph Rouge

Working on day two of my first bottle of this.  I got it on clearance from Wine Exchange for $13 (normally $30), and it has lived up to the hype that everyone was giving it here.  Get it before it's gone...

Did you post a note on those two Phelps wines?  I have both coming and I am curious.

Had a very nice barolo last night. Don't know how it compares to barolos in general, as this was only my second taste of one, and nobody has written a TN on this particular one before, but I liked it a lot! After 3-4 hours in the decanter there was a slight note of raisiness coming through, which I assume was because of the vintage (2003)?

2006 Giovanni Chiappini Bolgheri Ferruggini which is surprisingly nice and went well with lamb shank.  Hope it goes well with the Arsenal vs. Chelsea football.

Enjoyed an '02 Alex Valley Silver Oak with Kim last night after finishing putting up the christmas tree and decorations. Not decanted but opened for two hours prior to beginning consumption. Very nice, surprisingly subtle and complex, this wine and vintage just keeps getting better and better with each bottle - full TN posted on CT last night.

Catena Zapata Malbec 2005 - surprisingly complex and good for £10.

It was followed by a 16.5% aussie shiraz a friend bought round - utterly disgusting.  You could have literally served it by the slice.  Can't remember the name otherwise I would have warned you all off it.

Last night with grilled steaks, veggies, sweet potato, and salad:

J. Lohr Cab (Seven Oaks or Paso Robles not sure which or of the vintage) To me this remains one of the great deals in American mass produced cabs. Sure it's over-oaked a bit but as long as you realize what you're getting so what? At $12 it's an extraordinarily dependable value.

2003 MacKenzie Mueller Cab - Another spot-on offering from M-M. Probably impossible to get outside of the winery but such a great representative of the Carneros region between Napa and Sonoma. Virtually no oak, touches of earth, leather, and graphite -- all nicely layered throughout the taste. Not a huge finish but flat out enjoyable and held up nicely to the steak.

2005 Rosenblum Petite Syrah Reserve Kick Ranch - This wine kicks ass. Big, bold, fruity, teeth staining, paint stripping, you name it. Blackberries galore, chewy, perfect tannins, great long finish, not too much alcohol at all (decanted for about an hour). Serve with the best steak you can buy or have it as a dessert wine. Or, spread it on a peanut butter sandwich. I can't wait to get more.
