Last night I had some Gallo Turning Leaf Pinot Noir.

I feel dirty and ashamed.

    I agree with you on the J.Lohr. Seems to always be a crowd pleaser too.

I have always found the J Lohr Chard to be a great value in a mass market Chardonnay.  I often serve that at a party rather than the more typical Kendall Jackson or Mondavi Coastal, and have had a lot of good feedback on it.

My vote for the POTD.  [image]http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/image/s2.gif[/image]

Last night we had a 2002 Domaine Carneros Brut Late Disgorged.  Had it with chicken picatta over penne pasta, it worked fine but would been a great brunch sparkler.

My mom, bless her heart, had this at her house on Thanksgiving.  Needless to day by the time we went through the two bottles I brought, I suddenly became the designated driver. [;)]

Last night I had  Volcanic Hill..............very nice fruit bomb.

GalvezGuy -> RE: I Just Drank ............ (12/2/2008 2:12:26 PM)

Last night it was the 2000 Beringer Merlot Bancroft Ranch.  I only have a single bottle left.  It qualifies as one of my favorite finds, release price $75 purchased 2 cases for $23.99 and then six more bottles for $29.99.  I shall miss it when it is gone.

pault -> RE: I Just Drank ............ (12/2/2008 5:11:43 PM)

As mentioned a few days ago in this thread, I had the 2003 version of this wine. Just a real solid performer. Unfortunately, somewhat more expensive at around $35-$40.

2005 Rosenblum Petite Syrah Reserve Kick Ranch - This wine kicks ass. Big, bold, fruity, teeth staining, paint stripping, you name it. Blackberries galore, chewy, perfect tannins, great long finish, not too much alcohol at all (decanted for about an hour). Serve with the best steak you can buy or have it as a dessert wine. Or, spread it on a peanut butter sandwich. I can't wait to get more.

Have to agree, pbm. Love the output from Rosenblum. Have you tried the 2005 Rosenblum Zinfandel Richard Sauret? A great bottle. They are on to the 2006 (good as well), but I have been able to find a few 2005 here & there.

or am still drinking ... 2004 Terry Hoage "The Hedge" Syrah (paso robles).
Opened last night, but barely a sip.  Now consuming and quite tasty!!

I've never had it but it is now officially on the "list." Thanks!

Pavie princess - you drink some damn good wines. We were at a chef's table tapas and wine pairings wine dinner earlier tonight in Charlotte NC and drank a selection of Spanish wines including riojas, monastrells, garnachas and then a 10 year NV Taylor Fladgate port with the final dessert course, beautiful.

2001 Château Cos d'Estournel
Just thinking about how much I liked it!

annerk -> RE: I Just Drank ............ (12/4/2008 10:54:32 AM)

I had a photoshoot last night, so nothing for me.  My husband took a bottle out of the rack labeled "Swill" and it was a 1998 salad dressing.  So he tried another from the same rack, 2000 Turning Leaf Pinot Noir.  He drank about half the bottle.  I'll let him finish it.

kelpcowboy -> RE: I Just Drank ............ (12/4/2008 11:42:16 AM)

Last night I drank a bottle of homemade wine that was given to me with the admonition "We made two different wines.  One was OK but the other one wasn't very good.  I don't know which is which but let me know what you think"

I got lucky (or was the other one even better).  On opening, it had incredible floral notes along with dark fruit and spice.  Nice acid, integrated tannins and a finish that lasted a very long time.  A phone call revealed that it was made from 2005 Walluke Slope Cab from Washington State and that he still has a number of boxes left.  One of the best Washington wines I've had, made in his garage.  Go figure.

I'm ashamed. Had a 2005 Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay.

Figured I really needed to do something with it, given it's age.

At least a good portion went into the steamed mussels I fixed up for dinner.

I finished off a bottle of 2004 Provenance Vineyards Merlot Carneros.

Good weeknight wine - good QPR.  I know it's sacrilege to some of you, but it keeps well in the fridge over a few days.

Oops - '04, not '05.

Tonite we have opened a shockingly good wine...........never had it before.................  Strong rec that you get it.  "06  Cuvee Juline"  Domaine Paul Autard Chateauneuf du Pape

I can not stress how good this wine is.  Grown organically on 80 yr old vines it is an absolute homerun from Rhone.  98 points.

annerk -> RE: I Just Drank ............ (12/4/2008 5:09:11 PM)

Just finishing a bottle of 2002 Jarvis Winery Lake William.  Terrific meritage blend, great balance and complexity, smooth tanins and perfect acidity.  One of our favorites in the "Under $75" range.

A break with tradition; out with the Pizza and Norton Privada 2005, in with the Filet Mignon and Cos dÉstournel 2001!
What joy, I now remember why I like good French wine - massive black fruit on the nose; don't remember looking at the colour (but hey who cares about that anyway); and the taste just wonderful, so complex with blackcurrant, liquorice and soft oak filling the mouth and it lasted and lasted .......
And joy of joys I have more hidden away in the Wilstshire chalk.
It's back to Norton next week though, only had the one bottle here (think it was acquired at Heathrow, just before they closed Berry Bros - shame!)

Colonel Lawrence -> RE: I Just Drank ............ (12/4/2008 11:22:56 PM)

I just read this (about 2001 Cos) and he said it so much better than me:

Tasted by pian0_player on 3/8/2008 & rated 95 points: Nose of crushed blackberry mineral, dark chocolate and coffee. Very complex nose. In the mouth the wine is rich, full bodied and elegant. Wonderful texture and depth. I really love this wine. Has the backbone to age nicely, but it drinking well now. I decanted for about 45 minutes and then returned to the bottle. Very classic style, in sharp contrast to the lush overripe right bank wines. I was concerned that the wine would be too young, but the tannins are well integrated and the fruit is shining through. For old school claret fans, wonderful.

Colonel.  You are pushing out the boat a little bit.  Excellent news.  Because I work in Wiltshire I am going to hunt down your supply.  I'm sure it is around here somewhere.......

Make sure you wear your Tom Cruise gear, I understand it's pretty secure.

If you do get in just tell me my wine is actually there - could be the biggest scam ever, as I've never seen it.
