A burgundy that's actually quite new-worldish.  Very nice.

Chateau Semeillan-Mazeau 2001 from Listrac-Medoc. The bottle was opened yesterday by my wife who poured half immediately into a 375 ml bottle and stuck it in the fridge, but also had some left over wine which sat in the original bottle overnight. It was fun to compare the two today!

Had a several exchanges with Serge about this winemaker - rather modernly styled isn't he? Competent wines, but very new worldish.

Surprised by my wife's request for a glass (of sweet) wine, I opened a 2003 Tokaji http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=439032

Will be picking up a few more bottles from T5 at Heathrow next time I'm back in the UK.

Looking at some older stuff, I Popped 1997 Cline ancient vines Costa county red zin.
I usually drink with pasta or pizza. Cork broke away and was somewhat deteriated, first glass was a little harsh, let it sit for a bit 30 mins or so  and was smooth. Color was just getting off a bit so I think it is safe to say it is past its prime.
1 more bottle left, and should go soon. I suggest the same if anyone has any left.

A delectable 2001 Heimbourg Riesling from the splendidly bonkers Zind Humbrect. Medium bodied, high acidity, wonderful green apples, lime, wet stones, long length.

2002 Laughing Jack Shiraz - very odd wine with a nose of bacon fat, leather and smokey burnt (coffee, I think).
So, apparently hard to get (not rare or expensive - just hard to ger) and I'm sort of sorry I'm stuck drinking the entire bottle solo.  Not more aussie shiraz for me, onto Bordeaux the remainder of the week.

l'Esprit de Pennautier 2002 from the Cabardes AOC in Languedoc. Great stuff! Like a Bordeaux and a CdR mixed up. Yum.

smahk, I recommend adding RoundersRob to your favorite authors list.  I find his reviews very trustworthy and you'll find the answer to the Faugeres question.

Hey, have you guys noticed the cool little feature now added to the buddy/profile links.  If you look up a user profile with a public cellar and that user has wines in common with your cellar, there is a direct summary link.  I Like!  Thanks again, Eric.

Is this related to Chateau Pennautier?  Is it their 2nd wine?  Or is it a higher wine than the Chateau Pennautier?

Cool!  I've been waiting for that for a while and I didn't know that Eric squeaked it in there.

It's their higher wine. 14 euros for the 2002 compared to 6 for the Chateau de Pennautier. They also had the 2003 on sale, but that was already 23 euros, so I didn't buy any then. I may well buy some next time, although 2003 was a really hot year, making for jammy wines. If you think the Pennautier wines are good, check out their web pages for the whole selection. Quite broad! I really like their Minervois-La Liviniere wines as well.

That is fun! I'm getting a bit worried though...my wine hobby is becoming quite virtual, since none of my (nonvirtual?) friends are that much into wine that they would even know about CellarTracker! Oh well, at least I get to taste my wines in the real world.

1996 Mount Veeder Cabernet - Lovely nose but the palate is fairly mediocre and the finish short. Not a bad drop by any means but I'm thinking its best days are behind it. If you got 'em, drink 'em.

Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon Blend # 815
This wine was a pleasant surprise! It had lain around in my wine cellar for two years before I decided to open it.   For the price,  it is a steal!   Color: deep dark garnet.   Aroma: cherries, raspberries, and a hint of vanilla. Tasting notes: blueberry, plum, and lots of fruit.   I would definitely buy this wine again!

August West Pinot Noir.  Good stuff from an up and coming producer.  However, this is a pretty big pinot so all you burgundy boys (and girls) should probably stay clear.

Excellent find at a small Italian restaurant in London. Smooth, velvety, some oak, vanilla, and smoke tastes but still with that underlying "earthiness" that I like so much in Italian wines. Modest tannins, medium finish and went nicely with the variety of pasta dishes. Good value at $55. We were happy enough with the first bottle to order another.
