The name of the place is "Lovely Hula Hands"
located in "North Portland", once a "no man land" and far away from tourist attractions, if you are not a local, your chances of making it here are close to zero.
The restaurant is located in "young people neighborhood", I never seen so many lesbians and tattoos per capita, as I seen on the street and inside the restaurant.
The food is just simply LOVELY! Chef with innovation streak in him, excellent use of ingredients, fresh, and great overall results. I had quails garnished with pickled cherries, real bacon bits, corn bread, string beans and lots of love.
The baby octopus for starter wasn't chubby either.
Wine list is diverse and priced very reasonably. If you ever make it here despite all odds, come early, the place had line at the door by 7 pm and they don't take reservations.

I recommend you look up Higgins for a nice meal with a reasonable wine list. Seasonal Organic ingredients very much their theme, make reservations.

And since you have to have breakfast...its gotta be Voodoo Doughnuts. Seriously, their Bacon Maple Bar is something you won't find anywhere else, and... well, Cock and Balls just speaks for itself...

Thanks Hollow. I'd love to check Cock and Balls, but my wife is allergic to glutin.

Portland is notoriius for the best breakfasts I ever had in USA, we'll be checking our favorite places and I'll be reporting.

Taking a big assumption that we both have identical tastes, you've come to a great foodie town. 

Fife, in the same neighborhood as LH.  :  http://www.fiferestaurant.com/   all ingredients come withing 100 mi of the place.  Reasonably price wine, if limited wine list.    They serve no pasta, so I think you can keep away from gluten.

Others abound though,  hard to go too wrong this time of year.

For breakfast (sunday only) Simpatica is excellent.  My fav. in town.  Expect a bit of a wait though.  Their one seating saturday/friday dinners have always been solid for me.  :  http://www.simpaticacatering.com/ east side.    Stuptown coffee is damn good too.  http://stumptowncoffee.com/ 


If you like hip/fancy Frech -- although crowded. Le Pigeon on the east side is fantastic.  Narsisisticly delicoius foie gras ice cream.  www.lepigeon.com

If you are looking to get a great bottle of wine to bring to a place Vinopolis wine shop in downtown is solid.  1025 sw 10th downtown.  http://www.vinopoliswineshop.com/
we just went to fife last night and corkage was only 15 bucks.  not bad.

Another good breakfast place and great lunch place is K & Z deli, 11th and Stark.  Best pastrami west of Katz.  nothing like fried pastrami for breakfast.

If you want small plates, great tapa place is Toro Bravo.  Might want to go a little thai with Pok Pok, order the wings.

I'm not much of a poster here, but I live in Portland, and know where Lovely Hula Hands is located and found your description of the neighborhood spot and on and refreshingly frank.  Very funny.  Hope you enjoy your stay in Oregon.

Brandon, Fife menu looks divine...but they are closed for Sunday/Monday, we'll have to visit them the next year and I bookmarked the page. Thanks!
