pjaines -> Latest worst wine (8/11/2008 8:57:02 AM)

After my horrendous experiences with Echo Falls Merlot recently I had the misfortune this week to have this.....

If anyone has had a worse wine this weekend I pity you.

I actually remember drinking that wine at a party last year. It was bad. I remember the collective response of everyone taking a sip, then giving the glass a strange look, making a face, and shaking their head.

I drank a lot of good wines while on vacation last week. Unfortunatley, the last night, the last wine to finish off a wonderful week at the beach had to be this;

J2K - good note - probably one of the most succinct tasting notes I have ever read.  And just by looking at the design on the label you know it is going to be bad.

Your note just made my day! I just looked through your other recent TN and noted that you've had a bad run of it this summer.  Are you OK?  You didn't lose your job or anything, did you? [image]http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/image/s2.gif[/image]

Unfortunately some of my friends have shockingly bad taste in wine so they come to my house and bring dross.

I taste out of kindness.

Also, where I work in the UK there are a few bars that sell only horrible branded wine and out of a natural curiosity I like to have a taste - you can't be too snobbish - you might uncover some good wines at a cheap price.  Or not.  Yellowtail chardonnay was possibly  the worst white wine I have had for a long time.

While not nearly as bad as the one you had.  This wine was bad enough that my wife handed her glass to me and told me to pour it back in the bottle so that I could pour it down the drain all at once. [image]http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/image/s5.gif[/image]

J2K, I've had a bad Simard experience myself.  They sell alot of their wine in 375ml bottles and can get older vintages so it is tempting--especially in restaurants.  But, one sip, and you understand why so many older bottles are still hanging around [image]http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/image/s8.gif[/image]

Sometimes a little too much kindness can kill you.

I opened a bottle of this (glad I had only 1 bottle) just after I joined a few months ago. I had it for a few years , it was a 95 vintage.

Red brick is how it looked and I couldnt drink it. Dumped it right away and I am not that fussy.

Folks,

I will come to the defense of the '95 Simard. I had a bottle that was quite respectable. FYI -- They hold their wines longer than most chateau. The TNs for the '98 are another matter.

Not wanting to "break the spell" I offer the following as the worst wine I can recall having. I left it out unopened, hoping it would kill some insects. I have a septic system and I did not want to risk destroying the bacteria that are required for it to work. I eventually poured it on some weeds in my driveway.

2006 Château de la Négly Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape Rosé La Chappelle de la Négly

This wine was recommended by Gary V of Wine Library -- he should be ashamed, not that I think he has any shame.

interesting...
not too long ago i started a very similar thread ...
i thought it would be fun and helpful to point out labels that should be avoided
but it was deleted [:(]
nice to see this topic back
maybe since it's posted by someone other then me... it will remain?

It wasn't mine but I think this person had "worst wine"experience;

If you can't find this wine at your local wine store, you can simulate it by purchasing the cheapest bottle of "white zinfandel" you can find. Then pour it into a bowl, and leave it out in the sun for a week. Allow the dead bugs to stay in the wine. When the week has elapsed, chill the wine, and alternate between taking sips and licking the wood shingles on your roof.

Seriously, you must not pay money for this wine. If offered a complimentary glass, politely ask if there is anything else available. (61 views)

Your note makes me think that this wine had the "sulphide reduction" issue discussed in the "aluminum Twist-Off" thread. http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/aluminum_twist-offs/m_19718/tm.htm

Did this bottle perhaps have a screwcap?

RoundersRob -> RE: Latest worst wine (8/12/2008 12:50:07 PM)

Nope.  Regular cork closure.  I think the newer vintages are twisties but this was the 02.
