I will miss the Skype, unfortunately, as I will be driving at that time.

But I will be tasting the Amarone and the CdP...

I'll not be on SKYPE (I am in process of packing my house for a move) but I look forward to tasting the wines.  At the last minute the Beaucastel came through for me so I have all the wines.  I have already tasted the Amarone, so will be popping open the others over the weekend.  Prob Greysac tonight, Beau tomorrow, Gigondas Sunday.  Cheers to all the participants!

And thanks for organizing, Niklas!!!  Great selection of wines.

I am Gigondas-less.  Thought I had a source for it, turned out it needed to be special ordered, and I procrastinated, so no luck.  Bummer, I was looking forward to that one.

Going to the Anaheim Ducks game tonight, so no tasting, but I am planning to open the Beaucastel before I go to bed.

I'll be cheering with you tonight, Jeremy.  You have the 375 of Beaucastel, right?  And I have the 375 of the Amarone.  Just the right size to sneak into the arena!  I'll bet it's going to be a tough game - Dallas is getting desparate.  I'm thinking of bringing a big sign for Brett Hull  -  "Who's Terrible Now? Brett"   At any rate, I think I'll keep a Prosecco chilled for a Ducks victory.

We had club level season seats for the past two years but not this year.  The ushers usually let us sneak up there during the 3rd so I might find you towards the end of the game.  We like to go to the Jack Daniels Club for the post-game interview.

Yes, sir, I have a 375 of the Beaucastel and 375 of the Amarone.  Did you ever find the Guigal?  I thought it was at the Reserve down in Ladera and so I ran down there last night to check it out and found out it has to be special ordered with a minimum of 6 bottles.  No thanks.  Guess I should have called first.  Oh well, gave me a chance to stop in Amazing Grapes and grab the 05 Di Majo that Maestro is raving about.

My other friends back out because their kid is sick, and the wife said she would drive tonight, so hit me up at the game.

OK, having done some testing, I think the VCTE order will be Greysac, Beaucastel, Gigondas and finally Amarone. I recommend at least a couple hours decant for all!

I'll probably come online in a couple or so hours (around noon pacific time I think).  I have the Greysac and Beaucastel sitting open now.

Thanks Niklas for organizing what I thought was another successful VT!  All the wines were interesting and unique, and it is always fun to chat about them while we drink!  Next time, we may need to schedule the Skype chat in shifts or something, so that  more people will show.  The more the merrier I say.

Can't wait for the next one.  Well done!

Yeah, a 24-hour tasting! So that everybody can join in regardless of where in the world you are. I had fun again, thanks to those of you who joined in the skype. I look forward to reading everybody's notes on the wines.

Just about to pour the last, large glass of Beaucastel. It seemed to have a lot of class last night.  Wonder what the 3rd night will bring.

Thanks Niklas - the challenge has been set again!

Sorry to miss the skype session again but I also want to extend thanks to Niklas.

The only one that the wife and I tried last night was the Amarone.   I believe I know why it's named after the root word for love.  Is there some aphrodesiac in there?  Sorry, Serge, no details but I will say that my assets were quite randy afterwards.       Recommend buy!

Tasting notes to the main page later.

Ouch, the CT report has just informed me that I have consumed 4 bottles of wine to the tune of 125 euros in the past three days . Man these VCTEs are expensive!

The next one will be a little cheaper since we will do a flight of whites. :)

For the next event why not let everyone who is pretty sure they will attend select one choice.
You can then select additional wines from others choices (a longer list than normal).
Evertyone is guaranteed at least one wine in the tasting!

Hi,

We're gonna do the selection for the next event a little different.  The plan is French whites since we haven't done any whites yet. One from Bordeaux, one from Burg, one from Rhone and a sticky.   We should be able to find a lot of common wines there.  I'll start another thread on it after the discussion for this past weekends event dies down.  The date range is February.

J2K, your Greysac note is for the 2001, is that a slip up? You mentioned you had the 2001 in the cellar...

Sorry I missed the Skype session.  I have posted my notes...

http://www.cellartracker.com/event.asp?iEvent=6107

Having seen what others posted, I am glad to see my (rookie) opinions are pretty close to others - especially J2K on the Amarone's dessert-like qualities.  The Gigondas was my clear favorite (though I am postponing the Beaucastel for a week or so).

Rob - wonder if your experience with the CdP was related to the bottle size.

Looking forward to the whites since my experience with them from beyond the borders of the USA is very limited.

Thanks again, Niklas, for a great selection of wines.  My TN are posted.  I still have not tasted the Beaucastel as my dinner plans fell through tonight and I did not want to open it without some ceremony.  Will post my note as soon as I drink it.  I couldn't attend the SKYPE session as I am packing my house for a move.

By the way, as an aside, it is unbelievably painful to pack up 600+ wines and disassemble the wine cellar I built myself--and to have to do it all over again at our new place.
Craig
