Eric has another website in the works.

It's a 12 step online program for those addicted to hoarding wine.

You can't just leave it at that!

Hope he hasn't picked up any MS bad habits; when they acquired www.Hotmail.com they had to agree it would stay free.
Progressively they attempted to add features (e.g. storage space) which you'd only get if you paid.  Competition from other free mailers eventually got them to reverse strategy.

Paul,

You must have said to the kids by now "would you jump of a bridge if he told you to?" does the same apply to wine recommendations? If the suggestions are so compelling I'll be more selective - and will leave the stock recommendations to others

Wrighty

You know as well as I do that I am just looking for someone to blame for own weaknesses.

This thread is starting to sounds like a self-help group - "At first it was just one or two bottles, but then it got out of control and now I find myself doing it all the time"

The problem I have is that this website and forum is self-perpetuating the problem - I get people like Wrighty sending me emails positively INSISTING I buy a particular wine.  The next thing I know I have wazzed another £600 on wine in the morning before I have even started work and I have to go home and tell the wife and kids that we are eating dry bread and water for the next 4 weeks.

Do you vary the bread choices to pair with the wine of the night? What pairs well with a nice "wish sandwich" on Rye? (oh I Wish we had some corned beef...)

We are in the process of planning our new cellar construction, and I am getting scared, maybe I should design it a little smaller...yeah, right!

Build it as big as you possibly can!!!!!

We want pictures - we could open up a new thread "Cellar Porn" - pictures of lots of bottles stacked up in various places around the world.

Started drinking last Nov when brother was visiting brought a 1990 Figeac.  Bought a 42 bottle Perlick wine fridge thinking it would last for a while.  Fridge was full in June when the 2005 Costco futures started to come in.  Got a 9 case offsite locker thinking it would last for a while.  As of today, the locker has 7 cases of 05 Bordeaux...

Ytsai-

You've begun a jouney down a dark narrow path.  Along the way you will find treasures, but there will be constant confrontations with your SO.  Be prepared for excitement, enlightment, and battle.  May the force be with you.

I casually began about five years ago, I had maybe 20-30 bottles of mostly run-of-the-mill mass market wines with a couple bottles of better Champagne tossed in.

The bug really bit about 18 months ago.  I've now got 69 bottles cellared and 12 pending delivery.  It ranges from about a dozen bottles that are just shy of "bum wine" in quality or past their prime to some Quintessa, Opus One, vintage Dom Perignon, Insignia, etc.

I expect to cellar 24-36 additional bottles of top quality wine in 2009--the budget isn't going to allow for much more than that and still leave some to drink.  At this point I'm concentrating on the Napa Valley wines, it's a good starting point and something I feel like I'm just begining to really get a pretty good grip on.  Once I'm comfortable with those, I'll probably move on the the South African reds, as I've had a few that have left me staggered they were so unexpectedly incredible.

(I've also got two cases remaining of five that was donated for a fundraiser, but I don't count that as "mine" and am hoping that the charity can find a good way to use it to raise more money--and get it out of my closet.)

I lost track how many times this thread made me heave empathetic sighs ... I have the same problem as pretty much everybody else here ... started on floor of bedroom closet, then 36 cooler, now two hundred something Eurocave ... I realize now that I probably really need a 2,000 - 2,500 bottle cellar to have the selection and age of wines I'd prefer.  The extravagant cellar must wait, however ... school loans and a mortgage don't mix well with empty wine storage space staring back at me.
