good morning/afternoon/evening ya'll, J2K, NiklasW, petitblanc, pault, GalvezGuy, annerk, jhannah27

I'm looking forward to retrieving my vehicle from the auto shop later today ... a broken fuel pump made me miss work all of yesterday and what will likely be some of today  (this is the look of my wallet becoming frustratingly thinner with money and thicker with receipts)

Good evening/morning Grafs and all others!
I just changed to winter tires on my bike so I can merrily keep on biking through the snow and ice (and leave the car in the garage). Studded tires, guaranteed to keep me up even on clear ice which is good coz tomorrow I'm going to my weekly wine tasting club, and biking home might otherwise be a bit of a chore...

Today I must say "farewell" to wine (for some time) because tomorrow I will face surgeon's knife - Septoplasty.

Turku. I've noticed your handle in CT several times (very Finnish name), but figured from your tasting notes that you are in SE US. Original name Kääriäinen?  Tervetuloa tänne foorumiin vaan!

studded bike tires, huh?  that sounds pretty interesting ... windchill was always too cold in MN for me to even consider hopping on a bike in the winter ... you're one sick brother for doing the same in Finland!

It's fine down to -10 deg C, beyond that it get's too cold! But with the winters we've been having lately, it probably won't even get down to -10 C.

Paul,

Look at the bright side. You still had your jacket and wallet this morning I assume?

Damn - forgot to lift them!

It was a great evening, very relaxed and the kids were much better behaved than Paul makes out - thanks Paul.  And the schlep to Lewisham was better than expected, 30 mins from Bond Street.

Grafs,
Used to ride 300+ miles/week (weather permitting) while in grad school and the first two years of med school.  I lived about 12 miles from campus.  Would pull out the road bike and ride 20-30 miles each AM going in, no matter what the temp, as long as the roads were dry.  Got burned more than a few times trying to get home in the evening when the "surprise" blizzard" would hit Mpls.  Slip sliding away on road tires made for a long journey home.  I was too poor and too unsophisticated to have any wine to bribe my colleagues for a 4-wheeled ride home.
Sort of miss the good old days ... expect for not having any wine!

Do you still have family in the Great White North?

TC

So I just couldn't rest until I figured this out, and although I have a general feel for why this didn't work, I'm not sure that whether it is cloogyness (tech term) of the Photobucket site or whether it was more a PBKAC Error (Problem Between Keyboard and Chair)...

When CL and I were pasting in links to the photos in Photobucket, the links were showing as such:

http://s376.photobucket.com/albums/oo201/Hollowine/?action=view¤t=IMG_0265.jpg

Which were technically links to the page of the photo album, not the image itself. However, if you right click using the windows Properties technique J2K specified, or fiddle with PhotoBucket until it shows the page with the direct Link, you get the following format:

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/oo201/Hollowine/IMG_0265.jpg

Which is the specific image file on the internet. As long as you take this second link and bracket it with the [image][/image], it will put the pic right on your post, like this second pic...

Why not just click on the little "add image" icon (this one: )and then just cut and paste the url into the dialog box that pops up?

Tried that, but here goes again -

Don't think that worked?
So here's the URL
http://s396.photobucket.com/albums/pp50/cdbenc/

Someone must know what I'm doing wrong (daren't ask Eric, he'll tell me to read the instructions).

Hey Colonel, try it out on some random picture you find on the net, it could be that photobucket is the problem! When you find a nice picture, right click on it and then click on "Copy image location" (which copies the URL to the picture) and then follow Rob's instructions! We'll get it to work for you...

That was weird, the picture was fine on the preview screen, but then nothing.
Eric mentioned some way to fix this, but I can't remember where he said it.

Just have to try this myself:

Yes, it works fine. But Colonel, when I right click on your failed attempt above and copy the image location, I get:

Colonel, are you using a Mac or a Windows machine?

That is what my problem was, I use a Mac with the Safari Web Browser, and it is quite different than the Windows Internet Explorer use of CT Forums. The comments with the [image] previously were how it displays on the mac once you click the Image button (I don't have the little button with the mountain in it) and paste in the link between the [image] notations. I am going to screen shot this message in raw form and post it so you can see it.

Sorry, Colonel. I really don't use Photobucket, and I'm on a Mac, so most of my instructions would likely be for naught.

I did take your sunset shot, downloaded it, did a bit of exposure tweaking, and posted it to my website. I then took that link & put it into the thread, using the "Image" button above.

Okay ... I really feel stupid.
I can't even figure out how you "white box copy" the note you are replying to and get it to show up in your reply.
Feel a little bit like Dustin Hoffman in  "Rainman" ... an idiot savant.
I know what I know, and I see more every day that I don't know.

Kiitoksia tervetulo toivotuksista, kylla nimi on Kääriäinen mutta taalla rapakon talla puolella on ä:n pilkut jaanyt kaytosta pois. I've enjoyed CT a lot now that I've seriously gotten into collecting starting a few years back, I'm maxed at about 310 bottles due to the size limitation on the wine cabinet but I do have a good friend in the neighborhood who is using only a relatively small portion of his wine cabinet from whom I will probably try to borrow some space from for storage of longer term projects and keep more of the immediately drinkable stuff at home. Best wishes - ikk"ääriä"inen ;)
