I got the Clos Apalta just a couple of weeks ago at my importer's sale - got slammed by my friends for paying a little over the odds for it. Regretted it slightly then, not anymore though.

I still have (2) of the Two Hands Bella's Garden that was #5 last year. I think it's going down today.
Funny thing is whenever I mention it, nobody really seems to care. The biggest response I get is "oh, cool".

Oh, cool

Didn't get the 05's but had prior releases, I really liked Two Hands a few years ago, but my palate has shifted and they aren't really there for me anymore. Still have a bit over a case in the cellar of various Garden series, and I really liked the 04 Angels Share which I still have a few of. Post your notes if you drink them up, will be curious...

I've tried different Two Hands garden series as well and find they don't 'match' with me either.  Have kept a few of both the years I dabbled to see if a bit of age helps.

I have the Pontet-Canet.  I already drank one of the others.  I have two that should have been top ten but are not.  :(

I normally buy the Clos Apalta every year and actually have a couple of 04s but passed this year as the price went up $15 from last year.  Now Almaviva is the only Chilean wine I buy, which is also fabulous so I don't feel like I am missing much by not having the Apalta.  I would never buy the Apalta to resell anyway.  Even as WOTY, the demand won't be as bad as it it were the 05 Cos or something like that.

Went to the LWS today and the Clos Apalta was up to $90.

I wanted to "accidentally" bump the shelf and knock them all off to teach them a lesson, but they have pretty good wines at good prices, and I want to be able to go back someday.

LOL.  I have 5 of the "top 12" ... and nothing else ... further evidence that WS is hardly anything but anectdotal for me these days ...

The #10 is probably the best value - even at 68,000 cases produced!!!!!!

IMO, the Crasto at number 2 is the best value there ... granted I haven't had the '07 Seghesio yet, but I've had a handful of other vintages.  The Seghesio is a solid wine, very good actually, but it lacks "excitement."  That Crasto bottling is a bottle that will leave a mark on your memory ... the Seghesio will not.

Just four for me: all 2005 Bordeaux of course -

2005 Château Pontet-Canet
2005 Château Clerc Milon
2005 Château Malescot St. Exupery
2005 Château Cos d'Estournel

Strange list though, think they must be "having a larf" with some.
And the absence of others is equally strange.
Glad Chile won, even if I didn't have it - I'd vote for Almaviva - got that one covered :)

Just opened a bottle of the 2004 Pio Cesare Barolo to see what it is all about. (I have had two cases in the cellar since release but had not previously cared to break a case as I know the wine is young.)

Utterly mind-boggling and absolutely delicious after 6 hours in the decanter. Phenomenal value. Impossibly young, but actually quite generous after the aeration. Will post the TN tomorrow, as I believe it will be even more spectacular on day 2.

And I only paid €35 a bottle...

The nose is of the type you just keep there sniffing and sniffing the thing without even feeling the need to drink it. The finish is gorgeous.

But the thing is young. Needs extended aeration and will knock your socks off in 10 years' time.

Sounds awesome!  A raving review like this from you means it is a must buy!
