Ok I am starting to narrow down and create the list.  I think we'll go for a couple of whites, a red, and an optional "desert" wine which could be a sweet wine, a fortified something or other, or maybe even a tawny port.  I am going to try to keep the cost reasonable and pick wines to choose from which appear to be widely available.

I'll start a new thread once I have the list ready.

Does the weekend of Feb 21-22 work for most people?

Does sound like a long time away.  You think we could move it up to Super Bowl weekend?  It's not just for beer drinkers anymore!

I can appreciate the sentiment CL, except that in our area, we have no professional footbal team (sorry San Diego, we forget that you're down there).  Our big bowl gameday is usually Jan 1, when the USC Trojans give us a glimpse of what real football is!  I prefer the college game, anyway.  It's not tainted by all the money wagered at the pro level.

No, but it is tainted by the fact that the overall champion is determined by a stupid BCS ranking system rather then an actual playoff, which is why I don't watch college football.  Oh - and lots of money is wagered on college games.  lots and lots and lots...

I don't care about the BCS ranking.  I just find the college game more exciting, competitive, true to the pure form of the game.  I used to have friends in the "bookie" biz and there is no doubt that pro games are rigged.  Every Sunday, more money is bet on NFL football than the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and The Belmont combined ( I have those stats somewhere) and when you watch how the refs call penalties at the end of a game to fit the point spread, it becomes downright disgusting.  The reason it stays that way is because everyone involved is making so much $$$.  The betting on college games is miniscule in comparison and much more volatile as upsets are more frequent.  Now I better shut up, or Vinnie (my old bookie) will hunt me down and take me for a walk.
