60 - 70

Much to my surprise, my consumption has been relatively consistent over several years - 4.25 red to 1 white

Mine would be a bit more complicated, considering my propensity towards quality Sauternes, Icewine, Tokaji and the like...  These numbers will be misleading, since most of my wine consumption is at tastings, wherein I probably average 10-15 wines per week, and probably a full 1/4 to 1/3 of the wines I taste are not mentioned on CT (can't always write them down!)... so if I were left to buy/consume on my own devices, and kept better track, it might be different.  In any case, here's how it breaks down:

226 red (including 6 ports and 1 Cab Franc Icewine)
215 whites (including 35 sparklers and 18 dessert wines)
7 Rose (including two sparkling rose)

So really I think it would be 225 red, 162 white, 5 rose, 37 sparklers, and 19 dessert wines.  A full 5% are dessert wines - how cool.  Man, I love Doisy-Vedrines, Chat. Suduiraut, Clos Haut Pereguey, and good ol' Inniskillin.

I guess if you had to make it simple, it's either about 1 to 1, or it's 1 to 0.7...  My age is 20-30.

Always exploring new whites, new reds, and new roses :)

Serge,

As near as I can figure:

all of the reds
some of the whites

If you really want numbers, I'll try to get back to you.

Cheers

I may be missing a joke here, but...some port is white.  Tawny is red...and if you mix it with lemon juice you get a New York City radio station and the Mothers of Invention.

Bit late to the party, 4:3 this year and 1:1 last year. Tend to drink a lot of whites with Asian food in HK.

Oh and 30 - 40

Red 10 or maybe 20 to 1.  No kidding.  I probably drink a glass of white wine once every 2-3 weeks if that.

When i do drink white I love Bordeaux white and Burgundy, although SA chenin blanc is on  the up in my house - and NZ sav. blanc is just becoming a cat pee cliche.

Age:  40-50

Red:     380
White:  220
(Rose:    19)

Skipping the Rose, that would be 63% Red, or something approaching 2:1
Definitely seasonal variation ... now probably closer to 5:1

For years I had no appreciation for whites.  Recently I've found that I actually look forward to opening the white Burgundies.  I'm also begining to buy more white wine; I wonder if I'll ever really appreciate it?

Isn't it, to a certain extent, somewhat a matter of "bandwidth" as they say. Despite all our best efforts there are only so many hours in a day and a finite number of opportunities to partake.

I know I'd love to learn more about every region and every varietal but I find myself needing to adopt some kind of loose methodology to my purchases/consumption otherwise I feel like I'd know very little about a lot -- which for me is frustrating.

Clearly we're influenced by the market -- what's getting press, good QPR's, improved regions, etc. and I'd hazard a guess that overall reds get more play than whites. Of course, the beauty of any plan -- no matter how loose -- is knowing when you're deviating from it and that's part of what makes this a hobby and not a business. Whether it's through a new acquaintance or capable sommelier that I'm introduced to something novel, I look forward to discovering regions, grapes, producers, etc.

Therefore, I wonder if there exists any evolution to white over time is it imply the logical outcome of continuing the journey? If so, one question is, why do so many of us start with the reds? Or, overall, why are reds dominate? Are they generally more accessible? More easily produced? More compatible with most diets and/or palates?

As I update my "consumed" list from the past couple of weeks, I note that 15 of the last 16 bottles have been red !
Ah, the cold front rolls in, the slow cooking starts ...

If anything, I think whites are more compatible with today's diets.  However, for ratings seekers, high scoring whites come with a hefty price tag.  Chablis used to be my safe haven, and that is becoming less affordable.

It seems there are more affordable quality reds out there, with Chile and Argentina helping the balance.  Of course there are affordable whites out there too, they just seem like a tougher hunt.  Big fan of Italian whites, myself.

Then there are the touted health benefits of red wines.  Surely that gave them a bit of a boost.

Age 50-60.

I'd say roughly 9 out of 10 are reds that we drink.

you did.
Most of us found to our dismay that what we percieved as consumption and the actual numbers were 50% off!

I thought I drink 4 reds for every 1 white.
The real numbers were 2 to 1.2
