I am currently trying to narrow my search for a reputable manufacturer/retailer. Does anyone have any advice? Due to room dimensions I am looking at consoles and have found a 5 door double depth console manufactured by Wine Cellar Impressions. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I highly recommend contacting Galt Wine (www.galtwine.com).  I got my Americave (wine cellar impressions) cellar from them and couldn't be happier.. This is the one that i got. http://www.winecabinets.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AMWE&Product_Code=DL-BD.&Category_Code=DL

They have many models and will make a custom cabinet to your specifications.  Call Mike at Galt... I highly recommend dealing with him.

The unit recommended by Blue Shorts does look good.  Short of building your own cellar this is the most economical way to store wine.

A couple of issues to consider before ordering:
  • Get the largest cellar you have space for/ can afford.  It will definately fill up and you'll be sorry if you bought a smaller one because you never thought you would have that much wine.  Just about everyone on the boards with a cellar has filled it and has wine waiting to get in.
  • The standard unit is rear vented.  That means a unit like this can't be "built-in" (enclosed in a tight alcove) or located up against a wall.  The standard unit needs to be kept around 4" minimum from the wall  to operate properly (don't cheat on this or you'll regret it).  If you want to push the cabinet tight to the wall there is a top venting option (for a few more $$).  If you wat the built-in look (putting it in an alcove) they have a front/ top venting option.
  • I would opt for the upgrade insulation.  It will pay for itself with less energy used and less wear on the compressor.

Good luck!

Isn't that the truth.

We finished out our 8 x 4 foot wine "closet" in the basement, with racks to hold 200 bottles.

"We'll never fill that up!"

A year later, we have around 250 bottles in there, with wine on the shelves we'd reserved for hard liquor.

Jeez, I've heard of a wealth of excess, but we gotta get drinking!
