Hi Eric,
On one of my other interest boards, there is a feature that allows you to send a "private message" to the poster.
I think this could be fun to add here.  When I see someone posting a tasting report on one of my wines, frequently I'd like to ask the person a little more about his experience with that wine.  Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I could not find an easy way to accomplish this with CT as it's now set up.

There is on this board, see the PM logo at the very left at the bottom of each post.

But here you seem to be talking about messaging users not of this forum but of the CT database itself and that is frequently asked for (search the forum) but  is not currently possible.

Yes.  I'm talking of a direct PM initiated from a tasting note.
You have made me understand the difference here, as the tasting notes are not a "discussion forum".
Yet, it would be an awesome feature I think.
Perhaps it could be set up only for registered CT members?  Though that probably is not a simplification of the problem that Eric faces in setting that up.

When I relaunch the site later this summer is one of the new features I have already implemented. If you look in the teaser screenshot you can see some relevant links:

Authors will b able to opt out if they are not interested in seeing comments. This will feel somewhat more like a blog, although I will do somethings to give it a discussion thread feel as well--integrated directly with each note.

Ahh heck, why not show a little more. Here is what will be on the site eventually (never mind the non-sensical comment thread while I was testing the new feature.)

Eric,
You are awesome!
What you have done is actually more than I was suggesting - as you say, kind of bloggish.  But I'm totally for this solution as it opens the discussion to the whole community of CT, not just 1-on-1 as would be for PMs.
I will look into the new features so that I can limit my un-educated postings!
Thanks again.
- Denis
ps, Just a thought (I will do my homework on your new CT format), I hope the new version retains the chronological listing of all tasting notes of wines in my cellar.  Every time I log on, I look immediately at that list.

There is nothing to look into yet--I have not been very forthcoming with details of the new UI as yet.

I think this is coming along quite nicely.  I suggest popping the wine described above once you are finished.   When you come up with an official launch date, please let me know. I think a trip to Seattle might be in order for a celebration dinner!

Launch will be after your tentative trip out here, but if you are nice and promise to stick up for me I might show you some more then.

Hey - I've been your #1 fanboy all over the place.     Oh and I'd make a special trip up there for a launch dinner.  That's a big deal and my wife can always squeeze a customer visit in somewhere.

Rob, I know you stick up for me all over the net. I mainly about help with 'friendly fire' as I try to win any doubters over to the new design.

Just think of it as a new vintage of our favorite wine, but in a new bottle:
we might find it a little tricky to find first time round, but it still has our #1 wine inside!
