As demonstrated last night by my 3 year old son.

1) Always hold the glass by the stem, not the bowl. Keeps the glass clean and the wine stays the proper temperature (be it red or whire or apple juice ;))

2) Swirl slightly to aerate the liquid

3) Bring the glass up straight to your lips

4) Tilt the head back along with the glass, keeping the same angle

5) Enjoy how the proper etiquette can make the wine drinking experience all the better

:P

Sorry the pics are blurry. He did this quite randomly on his own and I only had my cellphone to capture it. I think he may have been watching his Father even more closely than I thought...

Beautiful David.  You've got a wine critic in the making there.

By the look on the last pic, it must have been a fantastic wine!

Edit: sorry, meant apple juice.

Love it!  (And yes, I think he needs to offer TN's to go with the photos...)

Reminds me of the time my 3 year old necked a whole glass of red wine I had on the kitchen table.

He went hyper for 30 minutes then went to sleep for 4 hours

Brilliant and hilarious!  I have already passed this thread on to several of my friends.  Your son has a familiarity with a wine glass which bodes well for the future

Heh!

Thanks for all the kind words, and I'm happy you are all enjoying his craziness ;). He actually went into my armoir all by himself, got two glasses, put them on the counter, got the apple juice from the fridge and said "Drink!" I helped him pour, we did our usual "cheers" and clinked glasses, and we drank. The form was truly all his own...I've never taught him (yet, anyway!).

Ever since he stole a half empty flute of asti when he was 1 1/2 years old, he always asks me to taste when I'm drinking. He also likes bitter beers as well (go figure). Should be interesting seeing how this'll progress... :)

Well, since this weekend is my son's 8th birthday party and these pics came up out of the blue today I figured I'd post an update.

He still likes to taste whatever happens to be in whatever glass I have handy. He still likes bitter/drier/hoppier beer. An interesting note is that about two tears ago I popped a cork and poured a glass, and it was tch tainted. Before I could pour the glass back into the bottle, he asked me to taste it. Curious, I let him. It was the first time he made a face and told me he didn't like something I was drinking. I was pretty proud ;)

I had not seen the photos before. Really sweet, and he could teach Hollywood a thing or two about holding a wine glass.

Doing my own part to corrupt the youth of America.

Our next-door-neighbor's about to be 2-year old, handling a nice Italian white.

Beginners mistake of trying to put a beer cap on a wine bottle.
