Thanks everyone for the great feedback so far!!! For those folks playing with the new beta UI, I just took a whack at addressing a bunch of the feedback that has come in over the past week. There are a number of changes: - The biggest piece of feedback was related to "where did that cool summarization stuff go." Well, now when looking at your cellar, purchases, consumed bottles or tasting notes, there is a nifty little "Summarize by" dropdown near the top of the screen. You can use this to take the current view and group it in a number of different ways. Basically, this is a "best of" from the old "summarize by" section of the navigation bar. The difference now is that you can then use the summary to filter down on a specific set of wines and then easily group the results AGAIN! So for example, group your cellar by region, then drill into a country, group by producer, then drill into a producer, group by vintage etc. I still need to do some navigation work here, but this is finally starting to surface some of the true power of the reporting engine on the site. (NOTE: There is ONE gotcha: not all of the grouped views support filtering on all of the grouping dimensions. Huh? What this means in human speak is that sometimes you can filter down on something, but when you group you will suddenly see the filter lose effect. I will be fixing these soon...)
- The "Home" page got a nice visual upgrade and also now exposes the 10 most recent notes from other users on wines in your cellar. It is pretty darned cool actually! (NOTE: This page still has some missing links which I need to flesh out.)
- The Search control at the left is now view-sensitive and will change its output focus based on the current view. A couple of ancillary search controls (user search is the one visible to you) have been subsumed by this.
- The nifty cool VeriSign payment system is in place and accepting payments. PayPal and Amazon are things of the past. If you have been holding off on donations, you can always give this new system a try.
- I cleaned up a number of FireFox/Mozilla visual and navigational glitches. (I am using it as my default browser for now at least.)
- I jiggered around a number of the links on the navigation bar at the left based on user feedback.
- The tasting note list has list the "View count" column, and this is subsumed in line with the tasting note. Visually it was too easy to mix up with the score from the tasting note.
- In the wine drilldown, now the wine parameters are hyperlinks and can be used to easily look at other wines in your collection.
I am sure I am forgetting a bunch of stuff. Anyway, this is starting to feel a lot better to me. I still have a bit of work, but I plan to permanently switch over to this new UI as the main UI for the whole site in 1-2 weeks. So give it a kick and let me know if you have feedback.
