Some cleanup of reports.

  • The Producer report now supports filtering by all 9 relevant parameters from the advanced query UI.
  • The Regional report now shows cost/valuation data and is also exposed from the advanced query UI. Probably the most useful thing is to look at a regional summary filtered by vintage. The Regional report also shows data for pending purchases.
  • The navigation pane is now cleaned up to remove the valuation linka nd has a slight reordering of links in the summary section.
  • The advanced query UI now suppresses the In Stock options where appropriate.

This is cool, but I think that adding filters to intermediate views has opened a can of GUI worms.

1) When you filter a view, it would be useful to show the filter parameters on the title bar. e.g. I filtered producer by vintage, but there is no way to tell from the report (or a printout) that it is filtered by vintage.

2) More importantly, when you are in an intermediate view (e.g. the one above) and you drill down further, you lose the filter. From a useability standpoint one would expect to see the # of bottles balance on the second drill-down.

3) Point #2 suggests that in addition to showing and retaining the filter values between views, you need to be able to turn them off.

See? GUI worms.

Adding something to the title bar should be easy. I will do that.

Drilldown is supposed to retain the filter. What are you filtered on where the drilldown doesn't work? (It should be easy to fix.)

From the Advanced Query, I selected the Producer View and filtered by Vintage. From that report, I clicked on a producer, and lost the Vintage Filter.

Oh yeah, DUH! The new Regional report supports filtering, but I didn't do this when I created the beefed up Producer report last week. This should be pretty easy. Look for a fix later today/tonight.

OK, the Producer and Regional reports should both fitler properly. The old ValueRegion report (which you can see as a link in the upper right on the Regional report) still does't support any filtering by design.

Thanks Eric! You have a very useful concept of later

Maybe while you are fresh on the Advanced Query page, you could think about adding the Drinkability view? I am always wondering what kind of Pinot Noir or Syrah I should drink next, but the Quick Search feature doesn't support varietal (or multiple filters).

Yes, well later can be a day or an hour. This change was a mere oversight and fell VERY nicely out of code that I wrote last night for the Regional view.

I am trying to give some more love to the reports, bu I am first going to touch up the Vintage and Varietal reports as that should be easy. Then I will get to Availability and Drink By and try to make them finally work the way they fully should.
