Over the course of the weekend I FINALLY got to some long-standing requests and deficiencies.

DRINKING WINDOWS
  1. When editing your personal data for a wine, I now expose the average drinking window exposed by other users for that wine.
  2. The Availability report has been rewritten to also expose the average drinking window from the community if nothing else is specified. This report now also works for users who haven't entered purchase data (by basing itself off of consumption and inventory data).
  3. At long last, the Drink By report is now based off the union of personal, Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, International Wine Cellar, BurgHound and average community drinking windows. This repot used to be hardcoded to just use Wine Advocate data.
  4. Now your main cellar list exposes the drinking window so that you can sort on it.

FIT AND FINISH

  1. More web-log surfing shows that the producer summary is timing-out frequently, especially for guests. I made this a paged report so that people can see it in smaller chunks rather than 4,000 rows at a time.
  2. While I was at it, I took the opportunity to also make the varietal summary a paged report.
  3. In the past some reports (tasting notes, transactions) were hardwired to never allow unlimited paging. I now dynamically calculate the number of rows that will be rendered and allow or deny the 'ALL' choice for paging based on that. For the more verbose, note-based views you can use unlimited paging if there are fewer than 500 notes in your query. For other views the limit is 1,000 rows.
  4. I finally added the paging controls to the base of the page in addition to the top, a long requested feature from a number of users.
  5. The form to fire off a Wine Searcher search (accessible from the Personal Data drilldown for each wine) now choose your default currency based on your locale.
  6. The Personal Data drilldown now ALWAYS shows 375ml, 750ml and 1.5L as possible choices for adding valuations, regardless of whether you have a purchase or inventory associated with wines that use those sizes. For other bottle sizes, you still need either a purchase or existing inventory of bottles of that size to be able to set a valuation.
  7. I now do additional validation on purchase and delivery dates to ensure that they are below the 2080 overflow value.
  8. There was a subtle bug that would occasionally cause corrupted layout when sorting a list of wines. The quirk had to do with the row merging the site does for the same wine in different bottle formats. I did a significant rewrite of this area to get rid of this problem once and for all.

SUPPRESS PRICES
When demonstrating the site to a friend it is a bit tacky to have your prices show. I now added a Show/Hide toggle in the navigation bar to control whether prices are shown throughout the site. This is just a session-based setting that fades away after a reboot of your browser.
