v 3.10.0 Today's checkin is a baby step on the road towards richer "social networking" functionality on CellarTracker. It is still very barebones for now, but there are a few new concepts in place: - The site has had the notion of a "buddy" for a few years, but that has mainly been just as a way of allowing High/Paranoid privacy users to let other users browse their cellars. This concept remains and is unchanged, but the user interface is now much less buried. The top level menu has a BUDDIES link which takes you to a page showing the people who have given you permission to see their cellars AND where you can grant permission to others. This will be fleshed out quite a bit more in the future.
- There is now an additional buddy concept which I suspect will take off a lot more. Now whenever you see a public tasting note, there are links to either add the author as a FAVORITE AUTHOR or to add them to your IGNORED AUTHORS list. The tasting note views now also have a simple checkbox filter so you can toggle between showing all of the notes or just those from your favorite authors. So if you find a series of authors that you trust you can now easily build up your own private list and report ont hat in fairly rich ways. The grouped tasting note reports now also let you group around the favorite author status. The IGNORED AUTHOR list is a one-click way for you to "get rid of" a taster that you find to be noisy or with whom you disagree.
- When people start building up lists of their favorite authors I will expose reports showing the most frequently favorited authors on the site. Also, for each user, they can see which users have added them to their favorite author lists.
Anyway, this is just the first layer of the onion. Start building those networks and tagging your favorite authors. I will be doing a LOT more soon...
