OK, this is the next step in the beginning of a social network in CellarTracker.
  • Now each user can establish their own profile (and photo) and decide exactly who gets to see it. Here is mine by the way: http://www.cellartracker.com/user.asp?iUserOverride=1
  • In general, pretty much ANYWHERE you see a handle on the site you should now be one click away from a detail page about the user. (Even if a user has not made a public profile or cellar, there is still some content on this page, plus links to let you easily grant cellar access to this user, add them to your list of favorite authors, ignore them etc.)
  • The user listing now shows icons to help you easily spot four types of users:
    • People who you have added to your list of favorite authors.
    • People who you have added to your list of ignored users
    • People who you have granted access to your cellar
    • People who have granted YOU access to THEIR cellar
  • There are also shorcuts at the upper left so you can sort by these categories and easily find these people.
  • The list of community favorite authors now shows counts of tasting notes associated with each author: http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?Table=FavoriteUsers
  • To better enable all of the new profile fields, the USER SETTINGS (formerly on one screen) have been broken out into three linked pages: one for your email/handle/password/profile, a second for your cellar privacy settings and notifications, and the third for the various display options to tweak the site. A nice by-product of this is that I now have more real estate to add a number of new options which people have been asking for. For a future release...
Enjoy and fill out those profiles!

More good stuff!  Thanks, Eric.  That will keep me from bumping the "Show your Locale" thread every month!

A question:  If my privacy settings are already low, does it make any difference to add someone as a cellar buddy?

In terms of access to your cellar, no real difference. However, you have separate control over who gets to see your profile information. And if you ever bump your cellar privacy then ytour buddies will still retain access. Finally, tagging someone as a cellar buddy add 'em to your short list, hopefully they do it in reverse (soon I will let people request it).

9 and 1 William S. Shakespeare.

I will ultimately create better queries to help get at the photos and expose the profile information. First thing though, I will try to get a LOT more people to fill out their profiles.

I like the STAR showing up on tasting notes from my list of favorite TN writers, but don't seem a similar icon for the ignore list...and they do not suppress, at least when I look at Tasting Notes on my wines..

OK, think about it, by definition you will not see an icon next to an author when they are ignored, becasue you will not see their notes?!? The ONLY exception is if you click a link to see the specific notes for that user in which case you do see their notes. It's sort of a "serves you right" scenario.

And I logged in as you carefulyl looked at your list of ignored users, looked at your notes, and they do NOT show up. Or if you think they do please send me a link and tell me exactly which user and note should not appear that does. I cannot find any in any of the global tasting note views.

I think it should be easier for people to see "what's new".  I think a lot of these cool features get unnoticed until someone just happens to stumble across them and the tiny little link to this location on the "home" page would easily be missed by people who don't visit that page very often.  Perhaps a link on the left pane at the bottom would also guide people here to see all the cool stuff they can be doing.

This is intentionally a bit under-advertised. I am planning on doing a not quite quarterly email blast soon to announce this, and I will likely turn on a banner to ask everyone to update their profiles. If/when I launch features that really want people to know about I do tend to turn on a banner for a week or two.

I definitely like the profiles.  That's pretty cool and I always poke around looking at other people to see if they have filled them out too.  I love the "little" community we are building.
