v 3.8.1
This release contains a considerable revamp of the stripped down cellphone site whih can be found at http://www.cellartracker.com/phone
  • This was originally written way back when I first created the site in 2003, and the mini-site never kept pace with tons of database additons.
  • Now on the wine drilldown you have access to a LOT more information including:
    • A separate drilldown of your tasting notes versus the community notes. Community average scores and your own scores are also shown at the top level wine detail.
    • Overall count of in-stock and pending are shown at the top level.
    • Now you can see your private notes, drinking windows, personal valuations, community valuations, WineBid.com valuations, drinkability score, and consumed bottles.
    • Auto-integrated Tanzer/IWC content is also shown to subscribers.
    • The inventory drilldown now show bins in addition to locations.
  • Coupled with the recent update to also let you access wishlists, and the cellphone site is getting a lot more useful.
  • Still to come: the ability to drink a bottle, enter a CellarTracker barcode, enter a keyword search (instead of just using the alphabetic producer navigation), and perhaps some other features to help better leverage CellarTracker whilst you are interrogating a restaurant winelist or are shopping at a retailer.
At long last, the wine detail page on the main site now also shows your personal scoring average as well as the community average. I am also thinking through a revamp/reorganziation of that page, as it has gotten far, far too busy for many wines and could clearly be cleaned up.

I jsut looked at this.  It shows the average for all users on the wine detail page.  But for my notes, it shows the range I have scored the wine, not the average.  Thought you might want to know.

I only looked at the '97 BV Tapestry, so don't know if this is endemic or isolated.

Yes, this is the intention, and this matches the same information as shown to you in your MY CELLAR view. Personal scoring average is my misnomer and doesn't actually appear in the user interface.

One other confusing thing is that the community average (a true average) includes your own scores as well. It would be too slow to re-roll a new average for every user.

Would it be possible to calculate personal scoring averages first and then do the community average as an average of the personal averages?

As it is (and as I understand it) if one person reviews a wine ten times, his opinion carries ten times the weight of someone who reviews it once. I don't think that's advisable.

Eh?

Ten bottles tasted as opposed to one bottle tasted?  Surely the opinion of the person who's tasted and written up TNs/scored 10 bottles does carry more weight?  Anyway, isn't it more important to read the tasting notes?

Of course if the winemaker for or a shareholder in Château Singes-Qui-Se-Capitulent-En-Mangeant-Du-Fromage keeps scoring that wine 99/100 then it will be up to CT users to blow the whistle and Eric to show the red card.

Assuming, of course, that Eric doesn't have things running behind the scenes that detect that sort of abuse.

I would love to see the ability to view my full cellar in the phone interface without having to click on a letter to find "by producer." With the somewhat esoteric sorting in CT, --
Georges Dubœuf sorts under "D" and S.A. Prum under "P", but Kent Rasmussen sorts under "K" and Pedro Domecq under "P" -- it's often easier for me to find what I want by scrolling through the list. How on earth do I recall where some of these French winemakers go? Cave de Rasteau seems like it should be under "R" but it's not.

At the very least, clicking on the letter should drop me at that point in the list instead of only showing me only items that start with that letter.

To me that is what makes the phone version less than useful. I've more often resorted to dealing with the full interface simply because it's easier to find stuff.
