ORIGINAL: DDL24 Greetings, first time posting here. Really enjoy reading this forum. I didn't pay much attention to wine until couple of years ago. Since I have a 15 month baby girl, I don't have much luxury to read thru many threads or do extensive search or tasting. So i am hoping fellow trackers can provide some help here. I was invited to a dinner at a neighbour's house. I knew they would serve pork chop so I took a 2005 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur. It seems everyone enjoyed the wine but I was really stunned by how well I liked it myself . No decanting invovled. I am still thinking about it a week later. I really never had any exposure to Burgundy before and I knew it's a much more complex/expensive region to explore compare to Bordeaux and it wil take time. Could any one recommend some similarly priced ($20-$30) 2005 that's similar or better to the one I mentioned above. I drink wine almost exclusively with food. BTW, someone opened a generic CA cab afterwards, I had one zip and then put it down. It tasted very sweet and very oaky/smoky but in a very brutal way or less finesse. If that's what's referred to as new world wine, then I am definitly a fan of old world styled wine. many thanks. Rich I, also, have had good experiences with the Esmonin G-C Clos Prieur. Not sure why but this always seems to be well-priced compared to others in this category. It is not an earth-shattering Burg, but is very satisfying. Glad you liked it. In the Cote de Beaune you can often find relative deals in the villages of Chorey les Beaune, Savigny les Beaune. There are also some good deals in Givry. You may find the Beaune wines to have a little more red cherry character. Enjoy, and welcome. Craig
