4/2/2024 - dcwino wrote: 97 pointsExpressive exotic nose displaying concentrated red fruit, raspberry preserve, cherry compote, light caramel, stem, Chinese medicinal cabinet, sweet spices and limestone. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered concentrated red fruit, rich yet fluid and sensual, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long sweet concentrated red fruit driven finish with a hint of stem at the end. This is more concentrated than the 08 GE. Clearly expressing the exotic 08 vintage characteristic. Drinking beautifully. |

4/2/2024 - dcwino wrote: 96 pointsPerfectly mature nose displaying bright red fruit, cherry, strawberry, strong sous bois, grilled cep, Vosne spice, Chinese medicinal cabinet, stem, cinnamon and nutmeg and limestone. Fully integrated palate, very finely layered generous red fruit, silky and airy, beautiful detail and precision, bright acidity, fine limestone mineral, and a seamless long sweet red fruit driven finish. There is a hint of bitterness that is not bothersome. The 08 DRCs very unique and special. They were showing a lot of Vosne spice from the beginning. They matured quickly and now are perfectly mature, which is not a bad thing. |

4/2/2024 - dcwino wrote: 97 pointsExpressive nose displaying super concentrated rich black fruit with a hint of red, blackberry concentrate, blackberry liqueur, red currant, classic DRC stem, Vosne spices, licorice, liquid smoke, dark flowers , spicy spices and limestone. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, incredibly rich and oily, excellent balance and precision, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a long concentrated black fruit driven finish with a hint of stem at the end. This is a big scale wine clearly reflecting the 15 vintage. Although this is drinking really well, it can easily improve for a three decades or more, especially if you prefer mostly tertiary expression. |

StG's menu tonight screamed Burgundy so that didn't hurt. Well, this reminds a bit of James Garner's reaction, playing a former President in the movie My Fellow Americans where he boards Airforce One again to attend a funeral for some dignitary at the behest of the sitting President and quips "Hello baby, daddy's home!" as he eyes his old captain's chair reserved for the president. What a wonderful glass of wine tonight. Looking back, I compared drinking this with a long ago 96 LaTache in my head and found this every bit as magical tonight. For this mere mortal this lived up to its exalted status among the best Burgundy has to offer. Purity of fruit, finesse, silky mouthfeel. Truly sumptuous palate and an even more compelling nose with roses & spice galore along with hints of emerging forest floor notes. Yes, this will likely hit even great hights with age but man this was a major head turner tonight. Even in the same flight with a wonderful '10 Rousseau Ruchottes Chambertin "Clos Ruchottes" this found a way to separate itself and inspire awe. Thankyou Siggy!! BTW, I highly recommend My Fellow Americans if you'd like to laugh about politics for a change. Garner & Jack Lemon were among the DRC of comedic actors of their time. |

Still almost primary, with its core of intense cherry fruit. There’s sandalwood, aniseed, Hoisin and rose petals with air. It is velvety but oh so powerful and balance is exquisite. The finish drives on and expands. Quite simply, one of the greatest wines ever made. |

4/16/2024 - clayfu wrote: NRWhat a wine filled with steely purity that feels more corton charlemagne than DRC. With the tiny sip of Batard Montrachet I had before and the prior vintages of Montrachet, DRC whites have always been ripe opulent beasts. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some of that tropical fruit in this wine but it’s by no means the primary characteristic. It’s about that purity and energy that provokes tension on the mid palate. There’s a crisp bite of minerality and salinity that pushes the wine deep. |

4/12/2024 - Vinum Deorum wrote: 90 pointsAs a few years back I have not been impressed by this wine at all. It lacks the usual complexity and elegance of DRC wines, especially in a vintage that was kind to red wines. Light bodied, and somewhat incomplete. Overall a decent wine, but a real letdown considering the maker and the vintage. |

4/11/2024 - Bernard B Likes this wine: NRI had this c1976. With parents, brother and his girl friend, who had given up drinking. Once uncorked, it filled the room with a heavenly perfume and the girl friend changed her mind. Marvelous stuff. Despite youth, no tannic intrusion. $25 (but that is well over a C-note in today's currency). One of my all time favorites. 5 stars. |

4/7/2024 - Berryman Likes this wine: 96 pointsExceptional wine. The 2006 DRC Romanee St. Vivant is in a much higher class than the 2007 (which we drank last night and rated 90/100). The 2006 is complex with a long finish and layers of flavor. Drinking well now with primary, secondary, and early tertiary flavors. The earliest I plan to drink my next bottle will be 3-5 years. Nose of stewed cherries, raspberries, violets, vosne spice and cedar wood. The palate is endless with 2+ mins of flavor. Nicely integrated tannins and juicy acidity. Loads of slightly sweet tart cherry juice and a cool menthol flavor. Subtle black pepper and oak at the back of the palate; with a richness and smoothness that won’t stop. It’s absolutely delicious! A combination of refreshing and complex. And I can’t stop drinking it! |

Fully mature Burgundian nose displaying shy mature red fruit, a hint of cherry and strawberry, sweet spices and earth. There is a hint of oxidative note. Medium concentration, shy red fruit, lean and cool, bright acidity, earth mineral and a medium long finish with oxidative end. It is not terribly complex. My guess is a 1er cru mid tier burgundy from the late 80s. |

4/5/2024 - deardorff8x10 Likes this wine: 95 pointsBeautiful wine with so much going on, yet subtle. Decanted and poured over 3 hours or so. Chameleon like changes in the glass and recharges from the decanter. Initial funky gave way to what I would call clouds of flavor -- all subtle but intense, and hard to pin down. Sort of had everything going on -- old fruit, sous bois, dried roses, white flowers, hints of menthol. We kept noting that it seems to be at an inflection point -- could turn into more of a bottle with "old wine characteristics" (perhaps converging with old Rioja) or develop into further complexity. Since we have no more, we will never know. |
