This Syrah was nearly flawless. Rich, dark black fruits envelop a core of herbs, olives, jasmine, and charred meats. It offers a powerful palate presence and a long, lingering finish. The depth is exceptional. Enjoy it now, or it will continue to impress for the next 5+ years.

similar to my 2023 tasting note - dark purple - blackberry fruit nose - some complex flavors of red flowers and vanilla - mouth is less balanced than before, with acid predominating over fruit - tannins mostly resolved but still present - long 15-20 sec finish - drinking beautifully now, but I had hoped for more tertiary development after 12 yrs

showing beautifully just after 20 minutes in the decanter. Plenty of leather, floral, lavender notes, with game meats. So fragrant! Sweet and almost jammy on the nose. Even better at 30 minutes. After one hour this was so fragrant with lots of cedar and woodsy notes. Still going strong after 2 hours, with a tiny hint of smoked meats now.

No notes taken. Confirming prior experiences with this wine and vintage, this is a full-bodied, intense, highly layered and well-delinated Syrah which has the flavor profile reminiscent of a Northern Rhone Syrah with tons of olive tapenade wrapped around a dark fruit core taking the center stage, but of course with a new world feel. While ripe and intense, this is not overbearing and thanks to a superb balance and light feel, this is a clear winner.

Decanting: No extensive decanting needed.

This was really impressive. Very classic Syrah flavor profile (olives, meatiness, herbs) with a lot of power but super balanced.

This drank well with a 2 hour decant, but I'm pretty sure it's just entering its drinking window. It should develop a lot of more over the next 5-10 years and get even better.

So, not a sin to drink right now. But if you have the patience, it'll probably get a lot better.

decanted 15 minutes after opening. Initially served too warm. Really jammy nose with blueberries, leather, potpourri, cedar, eucalyptus notes. Fragrant and delicious Californian syrah. One hour in decanter the nose was beautiful and luscious, but the acidity got higher on the palate and the tannins got a little grippy.

initially very jammy when opened before dinner. Served 1½ hours after opening. Pretty toasty nose, still very sweet, woodsy and fragrant. Reasonably smooth on the palate now but still concentrated. Not quite sharp and alcoholic but still packs a punch.

This is what a well made syrah should be like. Fruit upfront shorter but nice mid palate short finish nice tannins and spice. A bit on the expensive side but a great wine to learn the basics of syrah. decanted for a little over and hour in cellar at 57 degrees drank in mid 60S and followed for three more. Held up well to the last sip. drinkable now have 4 more bottles.

Powerful and energetic, belying its age. Alcohol a bit high, sound acidity. Monolithic and hard to tell it’s Syrah. Still, a decent drink and match to hearty meat.

Deep purple color. Jammy ripe berries and some strong smoky tobacco on the nose. Full body with medium-plus tannins and medium acid. Sweet blue/black fruit on the palate along with tea, tomato, and bitter cocoa. Tasty, though this pushes the envelope a bit.

dark purple - blackberry fruit nose - some complex flavors of red flowers and vanilla - very nicely balanced mouth with good fruit/acid/tannin balance - long 20 sec finish - when I first tried this 6-7 years ago, I thought it was an over-extracted fruit bomb and did not have the structure to develop into a well balanced wine, but I was wrong - it's developed into a beautifully drinking wine over time - my appreciation to my beloved friend Mark Schoenberg who convinced me to buy it

Deep ruby but not opaque. Forward blackberry fruit and smokiness. Medium to full bodied, meaty, vibrant dark fruit, strong acidity, some soil, moderate ripe tannins. Sappy but not soupy. World class Syrah which would be very interesting to insert into a Hermitage tasting. Outstanding now, easily 10-15 years in hand.

This is very definitely half way between Rhone and Aussie syrah. Quite austere and correct in style. Quite rich but good balancing freshness. Black and blue fruits. Is there viognier here? Tropical fruits. Medium plus weight. Good fine ripe grippy tannins. Long finish, complexity coming. Will be better in 10 years.

this is very full bodied, and powerful, intense and ripe, dark fruit… a bit too much power and intensity for me, lacking freshness and elegance…

quality is high, but for me too „made“ and artificial

if you want to drink it decant it for a long time or wait for at least 10years.

Drank initially via a Coravin tasting, then opened the bottle about a week later. Very well done Syrah with typicity found in this varietal from the northern Rhone region.

An intense and bold wine that immediately commands your full attention and has everything on offer you wish for: Herbal and vegetal notes of olives (black and green), a broad meaty layer, spice, smoke and a dark cherry fruit. Electric acidity and brutal tension add dizzying depth to the palate which follows a firm tannic structure. But thanks to a softening texture, the appearance is still fresh juicy and the fact that the fruit turns more red here adds a sense of lightness. An outstanding Kongsgaard Syrah at the very beginning of its drinking window. I did not decant this, but felt there was so much substance it was almost irrelevant – you might just as well pour this directly or decant it for 6h, probably won’t see a material impact.

Part of a large tasting, wasn't able to take detailed notes.

For a 2006 I thought this wasn't showing much age. Beautifully balanced fruit, medium-full bodied, but had a nice framework of tannins and acidity that kept it focused. Really enjoyed this and thought it unlike most goopy rich Cali syrah.

Drinking beautifully now but can cellar for awhile longer.

I have had their chardonnays before and agree they are Batard-Montrachet like (the Judge tastes like Leflaive) so was curious to try this one. Palate of crushed rocks, crushed violet flower, dark raspberry, and hints of cream. Still primary with hints of leather emerging. Very Northern Rhone-like and if tasted blind would have thought fruit-forward Hermitage or Gigondas. Decent 15 second finish with one wave of fruit. Not quite the mover and shaker as their chardonnay but very good. 94/100
