4/19/2024 - Purple Tooth wrote: 92 points*From a cold cellar. Very reticent and muscular, almost to a point of port. With time the fruit depth and linger improved and the cedar started peeking out, but you can stick a fork in this...You'll need a sharp fork. Having had this twice now in a close enough interval to remember both, I can honestly say that if I was blind and was served this and the 2003 blind, I would totally flip them in my mind. This is just a mess for a 2005 and the 2003 (which you would think should be the mess) is quite elegant and mild mannered in contrast. I am very happy that I had company to share this bottle. There would be NO WAY that I could finish more than one glass of this and to think that I have to drink the bottle as I look at the price tag, well, that would be painful. This is just over roasted and too boiled down for my old tongue. Maybe that's why all the old guys have mistresses in Burgundy. Drink or hold a 100 years and admire the label as cellar art. |

4/17/2024 - Mark1npt Likes this wine: 93 pointsI gave this wine a 95 3 months ago. Not sure of the decant time with this one. Drinks like a '14 Napa. Big fruit, both red and black. It's nice but probably needs a lot more time to settle in as most '05s from Bdx, do. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2/17/2024 - Happytoro Likes this wine: 95 pointsGoing off memory. I bottle decanted for about 8 hours, then used decanter at restaurant for 2 hours. This was very approachable at that point. It had a dark, brooding, dense color. The nose was primary with red or dark fruits. The palette was concentrated with low acidity. Had this with teppenyaki next to Quintessa 2017 and preferred the Pavie. |

4/6/2024 - Caruso Likes this wine: 97 pointsGerman pink to the edge with no sign of aging. Pnp. Quite ready from the start, needs just a little bit time in the glas or opened bottle to reveal a more powerful nose and palate. A mix of black, red and blue fruits with forest floor, pencil shavings, cedar. On the palate first light, but gaining power within 30 minutes with round but present tannins. Intense, complex and a joy to drink. I don't know, what is here to criticize. Today it is a civilized nuanced elegant, yet powerful bordeaux with at least a decade ahead if perfectly stored since release. 5/13/19/10. |

4/1/2024 - DFBW Likes this wine: 89 pointsHaven't had one of these for while. Not unpleasant but on a downward curve for me - the fruit is starting to taste a little cooked and the wine is losing it's balance. Bit of a stewed fruit bomb incoming so won't hang around with the last bottle.... |

3/29/2024 - MAXIMUM SATISFACTION wrote: 96 pointsFull bodied and modern. Ripe dark plum, milk chocolate, sage and mineral. Structured but approachable and possibly the best/leat wood influenced Pavie I’ve had. Still the wood is there but nothing is too much. Likely best in 5 years or so to fill out the center palate. |

3/25/2024 - Sean Tay Likes this wine: 97 pointsPronounced nose intensity with notes of pencil lead, vanilla, mint, blackfruits, cassis. Well balanced palate of acidity and tannin. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. The mouthfeel is smooth and integrated. Round tannin. Drinking well now. Decanted for 2 hours. In its peak windowing now. |

3/26/2024 - Delund Likes this wine: 89 points1 hour decant this time, 58 F. Deep ruby color. Lovely nose of smokey tobacco, mocha and cedar on the nose, subdued cherry fruit. Drying light but grippy tannins, alcohol and lively acidity well-integrated, oak not so much. Big cherry fruit on the palate, distracting dry wood notes, savory green pepper, hint of licorice. Long drying finish. Very quaffable, great QPR @ $20. |

Nice integrated tannins lent a great structure that paired with the fresh red fruit flavors, with a hint of saddle leather. Delicious. Guessed a right bank BDX. I was in the neighborhood on age. |

3/21/2024 - jfpwine Likes this wine: 92 pointsDark and opaque garnet color. Aromas of lead pencil, sage, dried herbs, black fruits and black pepper. Same on the palate, full body and integrated tannins. Long finish. I need to revisit the 2001s more, as I think they suffered from the comparison to the 2000s and they are quite delicious now. |

2/24/2024 - Cailles wrote: 92 pointsBordeaux 2004 - 20 Years On - 33 Reds: All wines tasted blind, not decanted. Observations: 1) 2004 is a mediocre vintage overall, with many pleasant wines, but without the depth of better years. 2) At the top, the vintage produced some classic, old-school wines with lots of freshness and fresh fruit. 3) At the lower end, many wines lacked fruit and ripe tannins, resulting in some astringent and slightly drying wines. 4) An alarming number of Right Bank wines (5 out of 16, no Left Bank wine) were oxidized, including some heavyweights like Petrus, Evangile or Figeac. An unacceptably high proportion of faulty wines. 5) I’m not sure that the 2004 are currently in a good phase, many of my scores were lower than in previous tastings. The question is if it’s just a weaker phase or the beginning of the end. 6) At the top and the only wine >95pts was a layered Le Pin (rated 96pts), with a charming Vieux Chateau Certan, a surprising Issan and Clos l'Eglise, as well as an elegant Lafite sharing second place (all rated 94pts). |
