Wow... best whisky I have tasted in my entire life

The "gang" got together and brought all their favourites, including Glenmorangie, Lagavulin 12 yr, Glenlivet 18 yr and Bunnahabhain 25 yr. This thing blew them all away (I will say the Bunnahabhain was terrific tho - I'd definitely give it a solid second.

Unbelievably rich, exotic, dynamic, on both the nose and palate - and the finish is wonderful, amazing, and everlasting. Even tho it is bottled at cask strength (104), you cannot discern the alcohol, it is totally integrated.

I ran out to find another bottle immediately after our tasting session - I never want to run out of this!

Seeping bottle with a low-mid shoulder fill. Amber hue is perhaps just slightly less red than a 10-year tawny. This wine is in amazing condition in the glass despite the problems with the bottle. Extremely rich and viscous. A searingly fresh line of acidity almost completely brings in the high richness from front to back. A fruitcake potpourri of dried red currant and orange peel fills out the palate with a hint of light roast coffee. The fruit and spice are complemented by a more subtle nuttiness which fans out on the finish instead of the nuttiness being forward... that's what separates the profile from a high-end 30 or 40-year tawny. Beautiful and bulletproof. The finish simply doesn't end. Wow.

Now officially a GG, this is the new label of "A.de.L.", situated just above their Halenberg vineyard in Monzingen. Will be sold at auction (240 magnums and a handful of double-magnums). On the nose floral, mineral, showing ripe stone fruit, some tropical fruit notes as well. Clean, bright with tremendous depth. On the palate tight, saline and intense, still a little rounder than 2015 Halenberg GG, quite delicate almost and lifted despite all that power and minerality. Very very long and breathtakingly beautiful. 97-98+

An evening for two very lucky gentlemen (Restaurant Tani in Gaienmae (Tokyo)): Utter refinement in a bottle.

A compelling Golden yellow.
A brittle, ultra-balanced composition that with its vibrant transparency shows off earth, slate, mud and beautiful summer flowers amidst a restrained petrochem, utter Riesling aromas and hooooney.

On the palate, this wine almost popped the eyes of my friend, for it is such a magnificent kiss of all things great about being alive and not part of any silly tee-totaller's group. Long, acids undoing the sweetness and creating the something just short of a perfect somersault when going down the hatch. Petrochem is with a light touch. All the flowers and honey are here. Riesling aromas are bowing gracefully. Intensity, concentration... Only lacking integration to be a perfect wine.

As this wine has some fine-tuning to do with its integration, and the umpa-umpa to do it: in some 30-or-so years, this will be in a much better state than we will be in. So, will try to keep our last btl of this elixir for our 70th or 80th b-days...

Tore the fois gras apart with smiles of elevated happiness. Lifted the cheese plate to unimagined levels. Outfrockingstanding food wine!

At fabulous Restaurant Tani, outdoing themselves as always, including Japanese bear meat for the main dish tonight. Yowza!

Super Tasting 1 of 6 - Andrew (Langdon Hall, Cambridge, ON): Wow! One of the best wines I've ever had. Compared to the 1989 La Mission Haut Brion served next to it this wine is darker; showing more charcoal, and a rustic edge, touches of tobacco, fresh floor, and herbs. Aeromatically this is simply bringing awesome complexity. Palate is dense and plush with plenty of freshness and fruit. Just so unique and complex, really stands apart from the reds of the Medoc.

Another jewel of a wine. Utterly hypnotic nose, delicately perfumed. It's glorious in *every* way. This is a super serious wine. What you'd imagine rubies would taste like if they had flavour. The tension, tautness and sheer intensity is really something to behold. The purity and lofty, ethereal beauty is unforgettable.

Fabio Alessandria, the winemaker, says the 2020s aren't for the really long haul as much as the 2019s. He thinks they are more aromatic and fresher and would drink them at 5-10 years. He sees "wild strawberries" in them.

Restrained aroma of enticing, bitter hops, with a background of buttery citrus and a hint of pine.

Centered palate with a lot going on - golden light brown in taste, a good bitter ale, but not over-the-top bitter, a light, sinuous glycerol mouthfeel, a little malty aspect, a hint of green melon, proper bitterness in the forefront, some warm cinnamon spice against the cool ale background. An effortless slim dancer, with a core of steel just showing through, twirling around in a spin. A real treat on a hot summer day.

Dreamtasting #2 (Restaurant de Watermolen, Kasterlee): (*, open label) Just a minimal hint of petrol on the nose which also showed dried apricots, pistache, honey, hay, wax, smoke and sugar-pecans. On palate this kaleidoscope of nuances continued... cumin, shrimps, incence, Turkish delight and a whiff of nutty Oloroso. Full bodied wine which size increases during aeration (!). The endless dry and clean aftertaste has brisk acidity which is so enduring, it's difficult to grasp. 19/20

An Evening at Bern's (Tampa): I have this wine listed as 1905 Pichon Lalande, but that is technically not correct. This is just Pichon because the two Chateaux had not been split up yet. That said, this was definitely more Pichon Baron in character than Lalande. A fresh and thrilling nose of dark fruit, asphalt, tar and leather soared from the glass. Absolutely thrilling palate that matched the nose. What was so amazing with all of these wines was the freshness. Super glossy texture and a long, silky finish. Just amazing.

From barrel

Hugely perfumed. A profound nose. Lung filling. Deep cherry, roses, balsam on the nose. Silence ensued on smelling this wine, and in our group of talkers, that is a rare moment. This is archetypal Barolo. Structured, yet detailed, with terrific acidic balance, sap, power and precision. Seamless. Incredibly long, with from nebbiolo tannins, but with more finesse than the '13s tannins. Expansive, yet not heavy. A regal, profound wine.

I have no frame of reference for this wine though for some odd reason it puts me in mind of the Raul Perez Ultreia. Not because they are similar wines. They are not. Because they are so different and compelling. Really? Mostly Garnacha? An intensely concentrated wine, sweet spicy, racy sexiness struggling to be elegant. Gorgeous aromatics of overripe sweet red fruit. Lush, deep black and red fruit flavors. Long evolving finish. This wine is difficult to describe. Haunting. An experience. Just to put this in perspective, the other two wines this night were an 01 Quilceda Creek and an 04 Shafer Hillside Select. And this wine drew remarkable attention as I just kept going back to it, choosing it to end the night.

A remarkable wine - generously brought to Christmas dinner by a friend. Big wine - spicy black both on the nose and in the mouth. In the mouth, though dominated by black fruit there is some red fruit but not as much as I anticipated given the high percentage of Garnacha. Strong, intriguing minerality, finishing with blackberries, prunes, and smoky espresso. A towering wine that just draws you in. Still with much life ahead of it.

Some of the greatest wines available to human kind (@KG's in Tavelsjö (Umeå)): This is by far the most mega-over-extracted, over-alcoholic and jaw-breaking Oz wine that I ever carved out of my glass with a spoon.
Basset's All Sorts, anise seed, tar, melting tar, tar on a hot day, tar on a roof... And the peppery fruits that overtake the tar. And the acids that give this wine a functional back bone. And... Yeah!
Some ppl do not like this style of wine, but this is an incredibly well made "monster". Together with a coal grilled piece of great meat... Yow!
Too much? For sure! So I agree with Mae West: Too much of a good thing, can be wonderful."
...and this wine is simply wonderful.

I'm still drooling, btw, over the 'coal grilled meat'. Yum

Decanted and served, it surprised me with a big, piercing aromatic profile right away, and that grew bigger for the next 30 minutes. The tremendous perfume of white fruit, flowers and citrus was followed by zippy, sappy acidity, a beguiling slight hint of botrytis or something similarly complex and spicy, with a long, long and cristalline finish.Magnificent.

Tasted blind. Very classy nose of dark fruit (blackberries, black cherries, black currant/cassis), some earth/barnyard, graphite and some flowers. Hits the palate with very complex flavors and a medium-full body. There is medium-high tannin (unusually silky for 2003) and a medium+ acidity adding beautiful freshness. The heat of vintage is not recognizable at all. Overall a very soft, accessible and elegant Lafite that was really amazing to drink. I loved it!

Drunk ar Arbor Hong Kong - A truly spectacular bottle of this wine. In my limited experience with DRC Monty I have found them to be particularly inconsistent. However, when they hit the high notes you see what all the fuss is about and this one was singing like Pavarotti. The beguiling nose initially leads you to expect a more reductive wine but the palate confirms otherwise. Near perfect balance of acid and fruit followed by a finish that may still be there as I write this note! An extraordinary wine. (Bottle 381)

What a winner. Has the most beautiful tar nose and nebbiolo fruit aroma. It took only minutes for this to come out of a tight condition upon opening, revealing the tarry component I only remember experiencing when doing taste tests of Barolos back in the 1980's before the modern approach to Barolo started to take hold. This wine is "tradizione" not just in the sense of being vinified like the old barolos of the 60's and 70's, but is in fact vinified in the only traditional method of the time. It has the intense nose from that time, along with palate notes of earth, dark fruit, and a great acidic backbone. There is even a bit of funk in the background reminiscent of the more rustic barolo methods before the modern era did so much good for the area, though also causing some loss of character. This bottle has an amazing QPR.
