Disgourged May 2009. I used to be in the habit of buying Bolli Sp Cuvee and realease every year and putting down for 5 years of so. This one has been in my cellar for nearly 6 years and is "spot on". Deep burnished gold with fine, light stream of tiny bubbles. The aroma evokes preserved lemons, honey and ginger. Gently sweet on the palate with rich, ripe flavors of orange blossom honey, ginger and roasted nuts. Long and profound with decent acidity, this was well worth the wait! Drink now to 2018.

9/17/2015 1:09:00 PM - How to decode the approximate disgorgement date from a bottle of Bollinger (any cuvee)

    1. On each bottle there is a lot number that is normally found printed on the neck foil of the bottle
    2. This code will have the following pattern: L###### where # represents a number
    3. These numbers correlate to the following LYDDDBB (L412604) where:
    • Y is the last digit in the year; 4 for 2004
    • DDD is the day of the year; 126 for the 126th day of the year (early May)
    • BB is the batch number for the day; 04 for the 4th batch of the day
    • This bottle L412604 was disgorged between January and May of 2004

So why isn’t this the actual disgorgement date? Bollinger actually uses this code to trace the labeling date of the bottle, but it will get you within 3 months of the disgorgement date (meaning the bottles are labeled up to 3 months after disgorgement).

9/18/2015 6:44:00 AM - Thanks but I can't take credit for that. Several years ago I asked Brad Baker of Champagne Warrior the same question and that was his reply. I pasted it into "Private notes" on my Bolli Sp Cuv page.

9/24/2015 8:33:00 AM - Dave, please check that number again. L4110045 would be 2041, 100th day, 45th lot of that day. I'm looking at my most recent bottle, purchased earlier this year and it is L 1416101 or 2014, June 10, Lot 1. And, yes, an extra digit was added starting in 2011 IIRC. If you do have a bottle disgourged in 2004 is would be in need of drinking IMHO.

A Pair of Carmenere (My House, Waterbury, Vermont with Marcel): Coravin'd for 2 hours. A bit murkier than the Montes, this too is purple/black, opaque. The nose is classy with a potpourri of dried spices, flowers and a complex range of red and black fruit aromas. Excellent, silky texture is polished and elegant leading to rich flavors of ripe black fruit, licorice and pan-roasted spices. Great persistence on the finish, this is a really good showing. Drink now through 2024.

Light yellow-gold color. Complex aromatics that include ripe lemon, wet rock and some high-toned Alpine herbs. This wine is more forward and developed at this point than I expected. Exceptionally well balanced flavors greet the palate with more ripe citrus, minerals and some late harvest like notes. This can be enjoyed now with or without food. Very persistant and refreshing. 11 more bottles! Drink now through 2024. 92pts.
