6/2/2014 - Robert Pavlovich Likes this wine: NR

Shows pleasant aromas of white flowers, peach, and apricot.

Medium to medium plus in viscosity with a slightly fatty, oily texture. Pear flesh, mild spice and some alcohol come across on the palate. Alcohol less apparent with air and food (simple Swiss cheese paired very well).

Finishes gracefully with good persistence, showing its healthy acidity and measured oak. Not hard to see the quality here, look forward to adding more to the cellar.

Identical character as described in my last note. Drink up in next year or so. Feel sorry for the folks having bad experiences with the half bottles but can see how they’d have crapped out by now (the half bottles!)

I promised myself I would let these sleep, but I failed. This is big, full bodied wine, 14.5% alc. Stone fruits, wax, spices. Low acidity. It’s the alcohol that cuts through the cheese in the cheese fondue, a great match actually. More to come.

Quite intense nose of light cherry fruit and spices. Good volume on the palate, expressive, marks of cherry fruit, cinnamon, soil. Focused and pure, serious. Good acidity and cut as well. Needs time in the cellar.

Very deep amber color. Interesting nose of orange marmalade, apricot nectar, preserved citrus peels and honey. Also reminds me of a very old Belgian triple (slightly oxidized notes). Medium-full bodied with a waxy feel as it slides down the gullet! Very round and caressing and loaded with apricot preserves drizzled with sourwood honey. Very old, but still absolutely delicious! Drink now. 92

Bright, light-gold color. Aromas of fresh nectarine & quince, orange & honeysuckle blossom, candied ginger & pecan spices along with petrol minerality. Luscious on the palate with notes of white peach, yellow pear & hints of lime zest, richly layered with mineral, dried red florals and hints of caramel and nutmeg spices. Mouthfilling density with rounded edges, framed with taut acidity and finishing with nice zesty length. Excellent showing.

Golden color. This has a profound nose. with layer upon layer of stone, savory, spice, fruit, honey, and mineral. Lychee, tons of spice, and while more on the herbal-spicy side than rosy-floral, there is plenty of fruit, with dried flowers-almost pot pourri, nuts, fresh ginger, honey, and bitters on the nose. On the palate, hugely rich and perfectly balanced, with incredible stony depth, smokiness, honey, rosewater, nuts, and brilliant acidity perfectly matched with a tremendously rich texture, all coming off simultaneously incredibly powerful and weightless. Unbelieveably complex, a real thinking wine. Amazing depth, and a near endless finish. The best dessert wine if not the best wine I have had in quite a while. I can't ask anything more of a wine. Better on day three. At peak and not going anywhere soon. Magnificent. 99 pts

Very good, semi-dry pinot gris. Fruity nose with some minerality. Very slight botrytis when first opened, but dissipated quickly. Full of fruit - honey, pear, and cling pear juice (agreeing with previous reviews). Lots of sweetness on the palate, but enough acidity and some minerality to balance out nicely. Lingering finish, very good.

Paired with a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken (Original Recipe, dark meat) and sides for our wedding anniversary.

A beautiful lifted nose with rose, lychee, spice and orange preserves. It's pure, clean a deep with a nose that really draws you in. Mid weight and very fresh for Gewurz with Lift and focus that transcend the variety's tendency for fatness. It comes across as opulent yet with a sense of weightlessness. There's a beautiful mineral-stoniness and acidity (for Gewurz) that give this wine terrific tension, freshness and balance. Pure, deep, effortless and incredibly drinkable. In a cool spot where the fruit and the spice play and there is nice tension. Yet another wine that makes me think that Weinbach is the best producer of Gewurz on earth. Drinking beautifully right now. 93pts

Bright golden, thick legs, almost like a sweet wine. Fascinating aromas dominated by petroleum (rather discreet), licqorice and smoke, but also a grapfruitish tone in the back. Full bodied, almost thick in the first attackt in the mouth. First, the wine seems semi-dry, but the sweetness very soon gets replaced by bracing acidity (and some alcoholic feel). The aftertaste is dominated by grapefruit and apples, smoke, as well as some earthy tones. Long, but with some alcoholic warmth. This is a wine for food, probably best with fat fish like salmon or white meat. Will probably evolve positively in the next 3-5 years, but is most likely at the optimal level of maturity now. For the fans of full bodied rieslings.

Upon opening, it was all diesel and pine resin. Slowly as it warmed up, out came lychee nut and tart apples. The palette however was a real disappointment. I'd opened another bottle 8 months ago and everyone was impressed. Whether you choose to call this subtle or dying is a matter of interpretation but I have a hard time believing this is grand cru quality from the Alsace.

The aromatics were good, but only once it warmed to room temperature. The palette never really came alive, though this did pair well with food it lacked the subtely I demand from anything labeled grand cru.

Good>Very good. Drank over three days, with day one being the best for my tastes. That said, day 2, and to a lesser (aromatic) extent, day three were both enjoyable, more so with food. On PnP, the off-dry, stone and yellow fruits dominate the nose, as expected; some really pretty seashell, and linen notes with extended air. The palate is medium-bodied, the finish is med+. It's good now, but honestly, I think I'll wait for a few years on the others. Oh, Laurence, we miss you. 13,5% abv., natural cork. Purchased at the domaine on release. Drink or hold thru 2026; pure, with good structure. recommended

This is in a good place. The color has darkened to light honey. Roses and lychees dominate the nose and palate, with a deep richness and unctuousness that is somewhat cut by the acidity. Certainly not cloying though. Drink or hold.

Great nose of lychee, ripe pear, spice, and some floral element that I can't place. On the palate rich and fruity, so much so that it seems sweet with lychee, pears, and spice. After that big fruit comes a bone dry finish. Really really good wine and a tremendous pairing with the sea bass. Yet another quest begins.

Palate shift, ALANR. I look back at your 2013 note and think it's very representative today. I did not perceive as much RS as you did, and in fact looked it up before I bought the wine (solidly in off-dry territory at 17-21g/L). Yes, it's gained some fabulous flesh but the acidity is still very well balanced and age notes are starting to intermingle with stone fruit and minerality to yield a lovely bottle of wine. Thoroughly enjoyed this with some fresh, soft, and goaty fromages.
