2018 Pezzato Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley more

Decanted for 9 hours. Looks very dark and concentrated in the glass and there is a Chambord note. Also some spice aromas which I can't put my finger on. Very good fruit with a spicy clove and charred oak that last for a really long time, one of the longest finishes every for any wine. It just hangs on and on. There's a hint of salinity that might be olive at the end. The perception of acid very forward with a firm knitting of fine tannins. Excellent structure and will age a long time. I'd recommend holding this, heck it's a 2018, for at least another 3 years to give it time to integrate the oak. Side note: I left an ounce in the bottle and it sat on the counter for a week and was still drinking nicely.

CT Gang at Nick's (Laguna Beach, CA): This is more MSG versus GSM since it's 75% Mourvèdre and that's all goodness to me as I really like a good Mourvèdre and this is certainly an excellent wine. Dark fruit, sage, spice, cigar box, and lots of firm tannins. Medium plus finish. Excellent wine.

Public service announcement. This will be much better, shocking I know, resting for a few more years.

Falltacular 2013 (FMIII in the OC): I was standing against a wall tasting this wine and Eric walked by and began chatting. He didn't know what I was drinking so I innocently (or not so) said "what to you think of this wine's aromas?" and handed him my glass. He stuck his nose in there, thought for 10 seconds, and said "this is Abigail". Bingo! I told him I thought that was pretty impressive and said "no not really, I live with that wine everyday of its life". Good point, never really thought about that fact he's surrounded by his wines everyday. He's a very knowledgeable winemaker and interesting to converse with.

This is my favorite of his wines, really well made with all the facets of California Pinot I like.

Mourvedre based Rosé? The best. This stands with any rose on the planet. The good news it's made by a great guy and love supporting the cause. Complex aromas of earth and leather with ripe apricot and peach. Fresh cut peaches and a little grit for good measure.

Dark crimson color. Light Cherry nose and stems. Palate is tart cherry, sour on the attack. Tannins are much softer here compared to '17-'19. Medium acid on the long finish. Vapors swirl around the sinus cavity.

This was a gift from my god daughter for my promotion to Yondan (4th) so it's special. The wine is just OK. Light effervescence and tree fruit aromas. Flavor is Asian pear. It's refreshing but there isn't much complexity and no bread note. Maybe not method champagne?

We definitely didn't need to open this after the slew of wines that proceeded. Extremely concentrated, glass staining. This needs some air, which we didn't do. Powerful wine. Blackberry and sage brush flavor. Soda mineral thing going on.

Liquid Farm Tasting (Chris and Brig's House): Completely understand why people go bonkers for this wine. This is the heavyweight champ of the lineup based on its weight, glycerin mouthfeel, and intense richness and complexity. More cinnamon baked apple and lime versus the leaner razor sharp white hill.

Book Club (Patty's Place): Blind. Stumped losing interest this late. I wish Sean hadn't spent big coin on this wine. This will be an unpopular tasting note as this seems to be a favorite of many. Big, sweet, and one dimensional. There's a LOT of cherry here which is probably Grenache but I don't know the blend. Horrible QPR. You can get 2 or 3 great bottle of the price.

Excellent wine as you'd expect. Dark crimson color and glass staining. Dark tart berry and chalky mid palate. Problem is I paired it with wild pig pork chops and homemade maple rum cayenne glaze. Palate was fried in regards to writing a detailed tasting note but the zin was perfect. Here is the culprit.

Last of the DRC I purchased for $20 per bottle. Glad the crew was able share in a legendary wine experience.

Blind: But I knew what it was because I gave it to FMIII to share with Nordhoff. Well, all three of us were sitting at the table so I suspected it might show up in the blind bag. Love the feminine, lightly ripened strawberry flavor with sandlewood. I love sandlewood in Pinot, Grenache, and I guess everything else. Still alive and kicking with a nice tannin foundation in support. Nordhoff thought it was Rhy Swan Terrace. Ha ha!!! Good for Kevin Harvey I guess because it did show like a Rhy but with more age on it.

Interesting maroon color, burnt edges. Dark plum, caramel, and cedar aromas. The nose is very alluring. I don't drink a lot Cabernet and certainly not much high end juice so I don't have a great reference but it's is very good. More cedar with cassis and plum flavors. Nice peppery note at the medium finish. This would be great with a fat steak.
