Unter den vielen bekannten Spitzer Rieden, wie Singerriedl, Steinborz, Setzberg, Pluris, Hochrain, Bruck oder Schön, gibt es eine mit einer ganz besonderen Geschichte.
Mitten im Ort liegt die markante Erhebung des Burgberges. Seinen Namen "1000-Eimer-Berg" hat er vom Ertrag der Weinreben, die – als der Wein noch nicht in Bouteillen oder Litern gemessen wurde – in guten Erntejahren eben rund 1000 Eimer, sprich 56.000 Liter Wein brachten.
Auf den steilen, nach Süden gerichteten Terrassen wachsen auf sehr steinigen Verwitterungsböden alle 3 Hauptsorten des Weinbaugebietes Spitz.

Planted in the Red Hills of Dundee in 1977 by Bill and Julia Wayne, Abbey Ridge is one of Oregon’s oldest producing vineyards and, in our minds, one of the very best. Also our highest elevation vineyard, the fruit has ample time at this cool site to develop true varietal character. Abbey Ridge fruit is consistently elegant and complex, with truly incredible aging potential. We are fortunate enough to source both Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from Abbey Ridge.

Bill farms the vineyard using only organic sprays on the grapes. The vines’ 30-year-old roots tap water from deep within the soil making irrigation unnecessary, a big advantage in an area where water is becoming more and more scarce. The vineyard’s natural balance generally yields only 2 – 2.5 tons per acres, contributing to excellent concentration in the finished wine.

Vineyard note from Anthill Farms Website: "This 1.5 acre vineyard sits at 900-1100 feet, facing south above the town of Boonville in the Anderson Valley. Its soils are part of the Wolfey-Bearwallow complex: roughly half the vineyard has very pale, sandy soil mixed with jewel-like pieces of quartz, while the other half has soils with more organic matter and large shale outcroppings. A mix of Pommard, 667, 115 and 828 clones are planted. We continue to farm and manage the vineyard with able help from owners Dona Abbey and Dan Harris. In 2005, the vineyard yielded just one-half ton per acre."

//Abbott Claim Vineyard// is a portion of the original John F. Abbott Donation Land Claim and lies in the middle of a sedimentary ridge east of Carlton. This is a consistent broad face of land with soil depths of 30 inches to mother rock. Elevation ranges from 400' to 475' and the inclination is S-SE. Soils are mostly Wellsdale with some areas of Willakenzie and Peavine. All of them lie atop mother rock of fractured sandstone and siltstone. The planted acreage totals 17 acres. Vines are roughly an equal mix of Pommard clone on Riparia Gloire rootstock, 777 on 101-14 and 115 on both 101-14 and 3309. As would be expected from a vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton District the wine is very darkly colored, dense and lush. Fruits tend to be darker such as plum, cassis and black cherry.

The vineyards of the Yamhill-Carlton District were planted mostly in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. The primary soil of this area is called Willakenzie, named after the Willamette and McKenzie rivers. It is a sedimentary soil with a sandstone base rock. The sand content is quite high and the soil therefore very well drained. The sites are generally on the lower slopes of a volcanic ridge. Wines of the area possess aromas of red and black fruits, with added elements of cocoa, leather and fresh-turned earth. Acidity levels are generally lower than other regions, prompting these wines to be lush and agreeable in their youth.

[Winery notes]: Aldo’s Vineyard, planted in 1937, lies along Napa’s Jefferson Street in a newly named sub appellation of Napa Valley - the Oak Knoll District (OKD). It is both ironic and surprising that this spot, quite near where the first Zinfandel was planted in Napa Valley in the 1800’s, is today the oldest Zinfandel vineyard in the district. Flat, cool, breezy, and mild (and now surrounded by newer houses), this hidden vineyard itself is anything but dramatic, and the wine sublime. Deep, layered, ethereal, and silky, the Aldo’s is appreciated by Zin afficianados for its gentle “pillowy” texture and dark and exotic black fruit character. In a way it is Burgundian, the anti-Zin.

The Allen vineyard is leased and farmed by the Rochioli family, and can therefore technically be labeled "Rochioli Vineyard." In addition the obvious considerations of meticulous farming, location, climate and soil, there may be another factor which contributes to the success of wines produced from the Allen and Rochioli vineyards. These vineyards may be among the oldest vineyards in the Russian River Valley to be planted to the one of the highly desirable "Pommard" clones (alongside Dijon 115, Wente, and Clones 76 & 15 respectively). Conversely, the vast majority of Pinot Noir vines planted in California during this time were "Martini" clone … a sparkling wine clone not well suited for still red wine production.
