2006 Sainsbury's Sémillon Taste the Difference

Hunter Valley more

Good but not sure the waxy, lanolin & rubber aromas are to my taste. But I did enjoy it. It reminded me of an Aussie dessert semillon but less sweet, which seems obvious but its not like anything else (perhaps a touch of riesling too).
Thinking it might be a bit reductive (its a screwcap), tried the copper penny trick and now much better. The rubber has receded and lemon sherbet is now shining through.

For the price, this wine is a home run. It's definitely big and fruity (black fruits and dark cherry), but not flat - It has a wonderful acidity and a great minerality, albeit a short finish. It's almost spicy from the limestone if that's possible! Definitely recommend drinking this cool, around 55-60 degrees

This second bottle experience was much like the first. Not much more to add other than running it through a vinturi smooths it out nicely and there is something in the bouquet that is stone-like. Maybe it has something to do with the minerality, or maybe it's something else that I can't identify.

4/18/2011 7:11:00 PM - The guys from Calcareous import this I think, and they're known for their mineral-loving ways! This is a simple aussie=style wine but it was definitely worth it, with the acid and minerality to it, and I don't like Aussie wines!

Dark and dense. Heavy fruit notes of damson and blackcurrant with a chocolate finish. Upon opening I'd find it fairly difficult to distinguish this from some aussie Shiraz.
Settled down a bit on day 2 but still punchy
Tannins didn't give the impression this has a very long future ahead probably more medium term. I would guess to drink this over the next 3-5years

It's a good drink, but it's lost most of its fruit, and not enough leather and other bottle bouquet to make up for it. Medium-heavy, but it's lost its centre, and kept the tannins and acidity, which makes it austere, which at this age is a pity It works well with a meal, but still a bit harsh (decant well!). Give it an hour to open up, but it doesn't really get very complex. Disappointing at the price approaching 20 pounds. It was probably quite a good, boisterous Cab-claret, but nothing subtle and hasn't lasted.

Château Lanessan was owned by the Boutelier family for eight successive generations since the 18th century, coming under new management in 2009. The 45-hectare vineyard is located on a gravel ridge in Cussac-Fort-Médoc, close to the border with St-Julien.
    Taste
A medium-weight, well structured claret, with a dark purple blackcurrant backbone, accented by notes of roasted herbs on the nose. Good fruit concentration and sweetly defined tannins.

Labegorce is always a great value but the 2006 falls a little short of their standard. The wine features a lot of mineral, pencil lead, graphite and there is even a little fruit in there. Unfortunately, there is not enough to make this very enjoyable. The 2006 does feature much higher acididty then prior vintages which might make it better with food...but I never gave it a chance. I would pass on this one at over anything north of $15. I do want to be clear that I had other Labegorce vintages that have the Margaux power...this just was not one of them.

Chateau Batailley Tasting (The Sampler): The look of this wine is quite amazing as it only shows hints of bricking. Although it does throw quite a bit of sediment.
Heavy iodine/saltiness on the nose. Lifted cedar notes and lots of red liquorish.
The palate is dry but with a real sweet fruit intensity of currents, black cherry and dried cranberry. Tobacco, sweat and Spanish cedar notes are lovely and add wonderful complexity to this. Well integrated tannins and a long long finish of pencil lead and iodine. Quite the show horse.
Drink now - 2015
Outstanding Quality. 92+ pts.

The wine starts out with scents of deep dark plums and nice acid, On the palate, the plums and acid appear as well as some spicy earth flavors. What strikes me most is that this wine is extremely delicate, and the flavors mentioned dance so gently together that the texture is interesting in and of itself. This could easily evolve into a spectacular wine as the flavors integrate more and the fruit becomes more prominent.
