Drank at Don Giovanni in Napa. Pop and pour. At first a bit held back but this really blossomed into something very nice. Tar, smoke, and dark fruit on the nose. Very rich palate with dark berries and great acidity. Not a super expansive finish but a great bottle of juice. This is really into the secondary flavor development at this point.

Deep rich aroma of cherries and plums, deep garnet color. Tastes a little like tomatoes, feels light on the palette with a very smooth and long finish. This didn't have the normal peppery finish that most Shiraz has. This wine aged very well and may have all ready peaked, but this is the best wine I have ever had (up to this point). Yarra Yerings are very rare and I got this as a closeout and paid only $25 for a $100 bottle if you could even get it. I was completely blown away by this and I am feverishly seeking out a replacement or alternate vintage if this is no longer available no matter what the price.

Very light colour. If the judge of a good Pinot, as Dr John Middleton of Mount Mary once told me, is "you must be able to read your watch through it" then this will be superb. Plenty of red berry forest floor and some spice on the nose, its so so good I almost don't want to drink if for fear of having none left. The palate is restrained yet expressive, i've got the feeling there are layers of complexity yet to emerge. This is in my opinion as good a pinot as the new world can do, I will defiantly be getting more to hide away!

10/29/2015 5:11:00 PM - Saying you must be able to read your watch through a good Pinot is so relative... How big is the pour? How wide is the glass? And, of course, where is the Pinot from?

Initially very restrained. The nose started coming into its own after an hour, the palate after about an hour and a half. Beautiful luminescent crimson color with purple tinges at the rim. A fantastic flowery nose of pure fruit, with secondary notes of fresh thyme flowers and dry crimson berries. More thyme on the well-focused palate (both fresh and dry), perhaps some dry herbs de provence, as well as a limestone-inspired minerality. Medium+ finish. A very versatile food wine. 89+

  • Comment posted by joraesque:

2/4/2013 12:06:00 PM - Certainly not at its prime quite yet. The notes on the palate will probably become more integrated given another 7-12 months, and additional secondary herbal notes may emerge, but it's a fun wine to drink now on its own if you can follow it over 3 hours. With additional time the flavor profile might also change from fresh to more dry herbs, which would make it more food friendly. Nevertheless, considering the style, it felt closer to its prime than the 2010 Dubœuf Moulin-à-Vent Domaine des Rosiers, or even than the 2009 Potel-Aviron Fleurie Vieilles Vignes. Hope this helps.

Sorely disappointed in this showing. Deep purple in the glass, with strong, grapey aromas and a big whiff of alcohol. On the palate, more grapey flavors and an almost syrupy texture with a hot finish. No improvement on night #2. The snappy acids and stoniness I've long-loved in this wine are nowhere to be found, as it shows scarcely any expression of its terroir or varietal character. What happened here?

Longueur notable.
Très plaisant.

I don’t get to drink a lot of Champagne, but with this selling for $20 at the local Costco, I could hardly afford not to stock up.

I get crisp apple cider notes without the doughy flavors that others have noted. It’s pleasant, simple, and well-balanced. The acidity is there, but it’s not obtrusive.

I've had really good bottles of this, and less good ones, and last night confirmed my hypothesis: this is a wine that shows well only on fruit or flower days. Last night, a fruit day, the wine showed a great balance of fresh dark blackberry and plum fruit, iron and gravel minerality, and the tobacco leaf green streak that Loire wine drinkers appreciate. Aromas are fresh and airy, the wine is rustic and charming, and finished clean.

But on other nights the thing shows muddy, ill-defined, and not delicious. It's the calendar. There are LOADWs of wines, even biodynamically farmed ones, whose showings do not seem tied to the bio calendar. This one, however, I'll drink from now on according to the calendar.

23 $ Qc (https://vinquebec.com/node/15618)

Truth is that I drank one bottle, thoroughly enjoyed it, but made no note, then bought another. Which I drank last night with beef and broccoli and again thoroughly enjoyed. This is on the richer side of CF, but still very fresh tasting. Boysenberries, black cherry, not a lot of tannin. No real vegetal notes, which some don't like in their CF but I find refreshing in small quantities. Time to buy more and store for the fall/winter holidays.

Vouvray (searching for value) (Dan's): Not sure what was going here. a tough night for Huet. Jeff though it tasted like a buttered ear or corn and that perhaps it had gone thru full malo. I thought there was a bit of VA on the nose which was not helping anything. Nice texture. Some citrus and acidity. Slightly sweet. i am assuming not a proper bottle. A quick look at WA shows Steven Reinhardt reviewing a different wine saying that 07 had high levels of Malic Acid, so perhaps this somehow went thru that fermentation too. No other CT notes, so be careful on this one.
