Ian's Blind @ Medlar (Medlar, London): Blind. magnum. Very fine bubbles, and in abundance. Lovely, fresh, lemony nose with warm brioche coming through with a little air. A chard heavy blend with PN. Lovely line with a nice prickle on the finish. Getting richer with air. Initially thought 96 but this might be 98. Turns out to be a grower, but no idea what. Ginger spice, pure long and elegant. Really lovely. ****1/2

Cornas Fest (Shane's abode, Portland OR): Nose: Deep and thought provoking nose filled with tones of brioche, leesy tones, creamed pears, baking spices, white fruits, green apples, and a touch of floral tones.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity. There is a real richness while also having some nice power with a leesy base and tones of brioche, creamed pears, white fruits, and green apples.

Overall: This is complex and still youthful at the same time. This was from magnum and had a lighter gold color to it.

Cornas tasting (Shane's house): Really fantastic, lush, decedent aromas that are coming across so juicy and creamy that it's like I'm smelling a desert. Lush texture on the palate, but acting quite vibrant and young. Nice soft bubbles and some dandelion pollen notes. Creamy texture on the finish, leaving the mouth sensually, but then after 10 seconds slow acid begins to creep up and overpowers that creamy fruitiness. Nice stuff. 91+

Creamy, vanilla nose with an intense fruit gel palate showing some development. Quite complex, but a bit loose, best with a chill to keep this firm. Very tasty but I prefer the other Vilmart vintage wines and am not sad to see this one go.

Clos des Lambrays Vertical (Momofuku Ma Peche): Hummmmm, this is still an impressive Champagne in a lot of ways but I definitely liked it better a few years ago when it had all those interesting accents to the fruit. Now it's just pure fruit, about as intensely concentrated as you'll ever encounter in a Champagne, almost Coche-Dury-esque in its density but without the butter. The word "gelatinous" I used in my last note two years ago occurred to me again today. Actually, the first thing I wrote down was, "Gloppy, but not in a bad way." But not in as good a way as it used to be, either.

A smattering of Grower Bubbles (Publican, Chicago IL): nose: this is deep on a completely different level then the other bubbles in the tasting. The tones flowed out of the glass with all sorts of tones of butterscotch, brioche, baked breads, toasty tones, citrus', green apples and bits of baking spices. This took a bit to unfold in the glass, but was stupendous and seemed to be still wound a bit tight

taste: insanely well balanced and full bodied on the palate with medium+ acidity along with very deep and complex tones of cinnamon, baking spices, toasted breads, butterscotch and some bits of green apples. This just seems to be starting on the palate as the acidity is still very noticeable, but not too overbearing

overall: this is still very young, but is a very special bottle of wine. The depth on this is into that next level that makes wines like this utterly amazing and memorable. This could use a few more years to fully develop or some air right now to fully show what it has

I haven't had this in over a year and a half, and from memory, this is in a better place now than it was back then. And I enjoyed it back then!

More "together" and exquisitely balanced. Whereas earlier I thought of this as a food wine, it is now polished enough to stand very nicely on its own. Acidity has largely folded into the fruit. A bit more sense of sweetness than I recall from the May 2009 tasting, held in check by a subtle toastiness. Relatively full in body with a long finish.

STG End of Year (Roy's): nose: fruity, fruit salad, bit of white pepper, dusty at the end
palate: light, delicate, and a bit overshadowed by the 2 other champers in the flight. Showed well, but perhaps should have been drunk on its own. C'est La Vie. It was still wonderful.

We have had the 98 and 99 Cuvee Creation individually in the past, so thought it would be interesting to compare them one on one. Brioche, creamy oak, hint of apples and citrus aromas. Perhaps less fruit on the palate than the 99, but more complex. Citrus and spice on the palate with great acidity. This is a very nice wine. I don't think it is necessarily getting better with age, but would love to have some in the cellar.

Fresh clean and lovely nose. FIne mousse ,excellent texture with more brioche than the 99, and a bit more secondary flavors. Chard predominant on the fruits, with lots of apple and spice. With air time it really gained focus and depth. 93 pts

I was able to procure this for an outstanding price and it far exceeded my expectations. Beautiful yellow-gold color; fine beads; tropical fruit, apple, sweet bread, and chalk on the nose; lush fruit, lime, and excellent acidity on the palate; long, luscious finish. We enjoyed this with edamame and sushi. Plenty of life ahead for this wine.

Softly developing nose. Initially a touch of hamster cage but this lifted in the glass revealing tropical, peachy stone fruit aromas with some subtle yeast notes. Nice richness and depth. No great tension here, but a very relaxed wine that is easy to drink.

I had this 3 years ago, and it was memorable then and is again today. While the best way to describe it 3 years ago (and this is not my term) was "technicolor," this is definitely evolving. The tropical fruit is still there, but it's starting to relax, while lovely spice and nut notes are joining in. Concentrated and long, this is beautiful wine. As a matter of comparison, I much preferred this to the NV Krug I had last month.

Noticeably more tart and acidic than the '99 & '96 vintages. It has a blend of cinnamon and almond on the nose along with rich layers of peach and apricot. An extraordinarily long finish.

I was less enthusiastic about this than the other notes here. Plenty of ripe tropical fruit, light minerality, good richness and depth, but I was looking for either youthful, tensile energy or added complexity from age and found neither. For the significant pricetag here there is lots of fizz I'd rather drink.
