1/26/2021 - rmh66 wrote: 87 pointsAnother ancient bottle. On PnP, the nose showed a heavily oxidized wine, with celery and herb notes plus citrus. However, the next day, the sherry-like notes are much less. Still this probably should have been drunk years ago. Aromas of cider, deck stain, earth, sherry, chlorine pool, oregano, lemon, celery. (yeah, really) Lemon, underripe stone fruit, earth, hay, light sherry notes on the palate. Actually a pretty nice wine, though you have to have a tolerance for oxidized wine. |

8/7/2012 - mmurry Likes this wine: 89 pointsCrushed seashells and citrus on the nose, with hints of pineapple, and some floral notes. Lots of minerals and citrus on the palate, with tropical fruit on the mid-palate, and a good floral finish. |

8/1/2012 - nysnootie wrote: 89 pointsI am enjoying this -- none of the oxidative notes other have mentioned. Instead, clear goldenrod color (as another reviewer mentioned), perfumed nose, and tones of pear, melon, and florals. Good acidity and length. Either I got a good one (2 more left) or these organic/non interventionist whites take longer to settle in after shipment. I think in another year will be a marvelous chenin blanc. |

On the palate it came across surprisingly delicate when first opened and not at all like I would expect for a Chenin Blanc. It did start to open up after it had a chance to breathe, but I never quite figured out what to make of it, though I enjoyed it more the more I sipped it. There was only one person at my tasting who really loved it. I'm curious to see how my second bottle comes across under different circumstances. |

2/4/2012 - schwank wrote: NRWe have very little previous experience with Chenin Blanc but found this bottle quite delightful. Goldenrod color in the glass, with a nose of sweat socks. The taste was totally unexpected from the smell however... while I didn't have a reference for it the typical 'greengage' description is right on target. Pretty dry and a nice mineral character. Very much enjoyed this bottle... a great introduction to this varietal. I look forward to drinking this one again. |

2/23/2015 - Phredd wrote: 88 pointsExtremely dark in the glass for Gamay, and though it is a 2009, it is still very purple at the rim. The nose is a weird but interesting combination of candied raspberries and pure dirt. Not cement or dust or other clever, elegant things: This is a handful of the backyard stuffed in your face. On the palate, there isn't a trace of either the candy or the dirt. Instead, there is more of a completely dry black fruit aspect, with rustic and quite drying tannins. The finish is not particularly long, but surprisingly well-balanced. I'm not usually a Gamay kinda guy, but I enjoyed this one. It's an Old World, AFWE type of wine, and works best with food. My expectations were low, but this was good. It does tend to break down after time open, so enjoy it relatively quickly and with no advance aeration. |
