An initial reduction here? Then lifted notes of mineral, red plum and raspberry with notes of balsamic and bay leaf, cigarette ash (evergreen leaves?) and a light vanilla streak. Light to medium-bodied, the wine is slightly held back but shows a lively acid, soft sandy tannins, and medium length.
There are liquorice and tobacco leaf flavours, some musty old oak at times and relatively lightweight. Elegant but relatively simple fare.

Medium Ruby. On the nose red currants, red cherries, vanilla. On the palate a dry wine with medium plus acidity and fine ripe tannins. Body is medium with a medium length finish. Flavors of red cherry, yogurt, red currants, ginger, baking spices toast, vanilla. The wine is balanced, showing primary aromas, MLF and oak. Drinking well now, pleasant good quality for the price point.

A nice surprise. Drank the first of three bottles in my cellar about a year ago and thought: “Now this is really horrible wine.” Held onto the other two, time passed, and now I’m happy to report much improvement. Pretty, deep ruby color, aromas of black cherries and vanilla, and a nice mouthfeel with flavors of dark fruits and hints of raspberry and velvety tannins. Flavors are still a little jumbled but maybe if I wait another year, I’ll see the score jump into the 91-92 range!

Clear medium light red. Elegant funky red orchard fruits, violets, red currant, and berry nose. I don't note any oak. Drynjuicy cassis and berry fruit flavours. Light tannins and just a hint of sweetness in the finish.

Very well balanced floral red fruit and cassis driven wine. In the background is a hint of poop.

Cherries and flowers on the nose. Cherries and plums and hint of mocha on palate. Medium mouthfeel, medium finish. It did accentuate the pepper in the Thai chicken thighs, but was delicious.

Fruity and lively. Dark cherry, cranberry, integrated tannin, medium acidity. Great to pair with dry cured meats, and an excellent QPR.

Excellent with or without food....a whiff of white pepper and violets..thick juicy texture with just a spot of orange marmalade mixed in with the red berries and tart cranberries..balanced acidity...let it breath for an hour and it really opens up...excellent value...I have enjoyed 6 bottles over the last 6 months.... bargain at Costco...

The 2013 vintage is Wine Spectator 91 rated as well as ranked #52 on the recent WS TOP 100 list. Most wines from Spain’s Rioja region are dominated by Tempranillo, but this little gem is mainly Garnacha (Grenache) blended with some Tempranillo & Carignan. While the 2012 vintage is drinking great right out the gate, the new 2013 release is a little tight and needed a few hours of air to open up. The flavor profile for this Rioja is cherry & black cherry with vanilla, exotic spices and a hint of orange peel kicking around. The wine once again has a silky texture backed by juicy acidity, but it is a little tight out of the gate. While this wine might not be the typical Rioja, it is an impressive wine which definitely delivers in the 91/92 point arena.

Wine Spectator 91 rated & ranked #52 on the TOP 100: “A thick texture carries plum tart, orange peel, toasted vanilla and anise flavors in this ripe version, balanced by juicy acidity. The spicy, berry-scented finish is long and pure. Drink now through 2023. 10,800 cases imported.”

Enjoyed it with a meal at Jaleo, in Washington. Fresh, lightly fruity, light spice, finish has subtle tannins. Went well with pork, vegetable, and seafood dishes.

70% Garnacha, 25% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo

Light garnet. Fresh and youthful.

Fruity aromas of strawberry, raspberry, and pomegranate.

The fruit profile carries on to the palate but with added minerality and subtle spicy character.

Quaffable juice that goes very well with a wide variety of dishes. 87.

Open the bottle a few hours before you drink it as it loosens up! It is more enjoyable this way and paired perfectly with our barbeque chicken.
