A very standard, yet well-made Aussie shiraz, the Jacob's Creek Shiraz reserve has aromas of ripe blackberries, prunes, smoke, and vanilla. On the palate are more layers of ripe, even sunburnt fruit flavors, with pepper and clove. The wine is viscous and a bit heavy, and while the acidity lends a bit of freshness, the tannins are soft, and the alcohol is not to severe, the wine doesn't maintain the sort of balanced you'd want for a wine at this price. Still, this wine has pretty good concentration of fruit, and is a good buy for under 12 dollars.

Reddish purple clear to the rim not as dense as some Aussie wines. Smoky plum cassis and vanilla nose with a touch of beef jerky. Medium weight big but fresh black fruit flavours touch of smoky herbal fruit on the fairly long finish. Nice stuff at a great price. Still has a few more years in it.

Day 1: Very tight, missing fruit, short finish. Day 2: substantially better, the harshness fell off, was much more drinkable, but still only improved to an 85.

Just barely drinkable, way past its prime, was hoping for some brilliantly dramatic surprise, but not the case, alas. No more pepper and some very soft plums as scubapete described from 2007!

Popped & poured. No discernable nose from the bottle; odd. Not corked but past its peak for sure. Some tannic grip but very little flavor. Light & summery, with some eucalyptus and a hint of pencil. Definitely American oak. No discernable finish, either. Does not improve with air. Takes me back to college, though. If you have any, drink it now, but go ahead and drink something else first.

Very dark. Initially a little rough and peppery, but definitely improves with time. By day 3, it was very enjoyable. Lots of plum and blackberry, with nice length and complexity. 89. 2/3/10

Wonderful expression of Aussie Shiraz. Full bodied and rich, yet also balanced with tasty notes of ripe plum, black cherries, and aided by additional flavors of smoke and tar. Definitely better than your average fruit bomb out of Australia, especially at this price point. Would highly recommend.

Nose: not very prominent. Taste: fresh, rather lively berry-fruit, and spicy in a subtle way. Maybe a hint of mint and a little bitterness. At the second day a bit chocolaty. Light to medium body, rather short finish. A rather elegant, not heavy shiraz. Might benefit from half a year cellaring. Agreeable. 82.

It really got better after being open for 2 hours. It's an easy drinking wine with lots of vanilla on the nose. Actually, it smells vanilla mixed with strawberries and whipped cream. On the palate, it lacks in fruit, astringent and thin on the mid-palate with short aftertaste. It is better on the nose than it's on the palate. Simple and nice everyday wine. 86+

PnV. Nice deep purple balck with red rim. Pruny balsamic aromas wit a touch of smoky blackberry. Medium weight faded fruit short finish. Not as good as the last bottle a few months ago. Time to drink up.

Dark color. Dark fruit, new world, but not too jammy. Decent, good with food, but by no means exceptional or special.

Delicious and well integrated now. This still can cellar for years, but if you have multiples drink one. Excellent QPR.

Dark red, approaching blood-red. Black fruit on the nose mixed with black pepper and lots of alcohol. A bit sweetish on the front, immediately vegetal and a bit bitter thereafter, with a peppery finish. Not bad for an everyday BBQ wine.

Smooth and open-textured, with cherry and savory red pepper flavors that mingle effectively on the mineral-tinged profile, lingering against refined tannins on the long, expressive finish.

Popped & poured. Noseful of fruit when opened, but tart to the palatte, short finish. Poured second glass thru a Jack Rabbit. Really opened up the flavor. This needed the O2 to express the rest of the story. Tannins softened up and chocolate, dark fruits (short of jammy) a little earthy (maybe clove?) really got to express themselves. Goood example of Aussie Shiraz, but not over the top.

Blackberry, spice, vanilla, and a hint of leather on the nose. Berries, black pepper, and a hint of cocoa on the palette, going to vanilla, mocha, and a bit of cream on the finish. Moderate tannins. Good structure and balance. Very easy to drink. This wine would definitely benefit from decanting.
