2005 Rolf Binder/Veritas Shiraz HeysenBarossa Valley more |
5/29/2013 - BRR Likes this wine: 92 pointsWhen Aussie Shiraz is done well, it can be so good. Pure aromas of floral-accented currant, black cherry and a tiny hint of eucalyptus. Beautifully integrated tannins and a long, juicy finish. Classy and, although it lacked the more meaty Syrah notes, it screamed top-notch Oz. |

2002 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valleymore |
4/23/2012 - BRR wrote: 92 pointsPnP. My last one and it didn't disappoint. Aromas of blueberry compote, mint, licorice and graphite. On the palate, no tannin present (or very little), allowing the glirous blueberry, blackberry and smoke flavors to really shine, along with a silk-like mouthfeel. No heat, great balance, long finish. This just about touches on the limit of "sweetness" that I like in a dry red, but stays just in check. Yum. |

8/13/2021 - BRR Likes this wine: 90 pointsUnder screwcap. At age 8, this sure isn't showing much age. Great fruit and liveliness in the mouth. Decidedly ripe, but not boozy or hot. Drink this as a cocktail wine that most will really enjoy. |

12/10/2014 - BRR Likes this wine: 93 pointsReally exciting wine. Notes of stone fruit and a hint of something savory-ish (patchouli oil)? Great acidity, and not much palate weight. Very nice, and quite unique. |

2012 Kellermeister Privat Blauer ZweigeltKremstal more |
4/4/2014 - BRR Likes this wine: 87 pointsNever had a Blauer Zweigelt, and was pleasantly surprised. Straight-forward and pleasing, much like a lighter-bodied Zin. Brairy and slightly peppery aromas and flavors of raspberry, red licorice and pie cherry. Nothing "cheap" or artificial tasting at all, and a good food wine. Thanks, Klaus! |

2014 Black Swift Vineyards Syrah The Long RoadOkanagan Valley more |
6/4/2018 - BRR Likes this wine: NRNot having (to my memory at least) any experience with Canadian Syrah, I was totally impressed and surprised by the qualify of this wine. This was recommended for us by the wine steward/sommelier at Hy's Steakhouse in Whistler BC. Not decanted. The scents were immediately coming out of the glass with pepper, black fruits, spice. The palate was equally impressive with game, black fruits and more spice. As other notes mention, a blend of N. Rhone and Washington. Very good! |

2009 Viña Cono Sur ViognierColchagua Valley more |
3/27/2010 - BRR wrote: 89 points(Screwcap) Just a great wine - excellent QPR. Clear, light yellow. Bright, pure nose with fig, lemon zest, peach skin. On the palate, again bright and lively with excellent acid and freshness, but still maintaining a lot of the traits I look for in a good viognier. Stone fruit, ripe pear, tiny bit of "funk." Not over-done or heavy. Yummy. |

2004 Lapostolle Syrah Cuvée Alexandre Apalta VineyardColchagua Valley more |
12/10/2012 - BRR wrote: 91 pointsA pretty unique expression of Syrah, in that it's not typical of anything from the Rhone, or from Washington, but a typicity unto its own. There was a higher-acid component (in a very good way) and a brightness to the red fruit and strong iron components. Could age more. Very enjoyable and unique. |

2000 Clos ApaltaRed Bordeaux Blend more |
4/7/2013 - BRR wrote: 92 pointsDare I say that this might have been too young at 13 years? It was very good, but still seemed quite primary and unevolved. Blind, I'd have said 5 years or younger. Aromas and flavors of raspberry/blackberry ganache, spice, and a hint of gravel and herb. Definitely still has some tannic presence. Very tasty, and will age very well. |

2001 Clos ApaltaRed Bordeaux Blend more |
3/17/2014 - BRR Likes this wine: 94 pointsShowing so well right now. Not decanted, enjoyed over 3 hours. Awesome nose, showing a mix of charcoal/tar-tinged (in a very good way) plum and blackberry jam. Still pretty youthful dark fruit on the palate with some secondary notes coming in, but tannins have fully integrated. I'd say drink over the next 5-7 years. Just excellent. |

2006 Château Franc Grace-DieuSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
2/16/2015 - BRR wrote: 85 pointsThe nose on this was initially great - dark fruit, nice vibrancy. But, on the palate, the fruit fell short. It was better with the steak we had, but the glass after dinner was far more thin and drying out. Good, not great, with food, not recommended alone. |

1988 Château Lynch-BagesPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/5/2015 - BRR Likes this wine: 93 pointsExcellent provenance. High shoulder fill. Completely saturated cork. Next to a 1989 La Dominique, the color on this '88 was far darker. Blind, I guessed a much younger wine. No detailed notes, but it was fantastic. This is why we let Bordeaux age! |

2000 Les Pagodes de CosSt. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/7/2014 - BRR wrote: 90 pointsThis got better with air. No formal notes taken. Obviously the earthy components were there initially with the tart cherry and raspberry notes. I think this will continue to evolve, not necessarily for better or worse, but will change, before it goes downhill. On day two (left on the counter in a plastic-wrap covered decanter), the cherry notes sweetened up a bit, which was nice, and I really noticed how velvety the tannins were. Nice wine, but no rush. |

2006 Château Raymond-LafonSauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more |
2/8/2020 - BRR Likes this wine: 89 pointsSeven wines from 1978 (CA and WA), and a few others...: Served from large Bordeaux-style stems. Lighter honey color. The nose didn't give up a whole lot. On the palate, though, this is sweet and tasty. Apricot, marzipan(?), pineapple, slight spice. Very nice. |

2018 Domaine Depeuble Beaujolais NouveauGamay more |
1/24/2020 - BRR Likes this wine: NRI agree that this wine needs some air. It's what I would call a slightly rustic Beaujolais, with it's slightly dry tannin and less-than-forward fruit. It's fruity, but it's got structure and air allows that fruit to come out, along with some lovely herbal notes. Good now. |

2018 Château Thivin Côte de BrouillyGamay more |
2/27/2020 - BRR Likes this wine: 90 pointsNot decanted. This immediately strikes me as a less fruity version of 2017 (which was a vintage I loved) with a little more structure. Aromatic, but the red fruit isn't very extroverted, and mineral notes stick out a bit with high acidity. Hold. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2016 Domaine Pascal Aufranc Juliénas ProbusGamay more |
11/21/2019 - BRR wrote: NRI actually think this wine could use a little age. Initially, this was pretty herbal on the attack. Only after an hour plus did the fruit come to the fore. Nice marionberry notes, but still a little reticent to show. Good, but I'll want on the next one. |

2015 Jean-Marc Brocard Bourgogne Blanc KimmeridgienChardonnay more |
6/26/2018 - BRR Likes this wine: 88 pointsVery strong QPR at around $15 (from Full Pull Wines). Great fruit, but not flabby and under acidified. This will appeal to both domestic Chardonnay lovers, but will also hold the interest of a Francophile as an everyday drinker. Good purchase. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 2/8/2020 - BRR Likes this wine: 92 pointsSeven wines from 1978 (CA and WA), and a few others...: Served from magnum. Definitely no premox here! This was so young still and hand't developed much in the way of aged complexity, amazingly. Lemon pith, minerals, some peach skin, all with great concentration, but on a light frame...delicious with dungeness crab. |

2013 Maison Harbour Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En CailleretsChardonnay more |
4/30/2018 - BRR Likes this wine: 91 pointsI really dug this. This is the first vintage of Maison Harbour I bought, so I'm glad to finally taste what I put money toward. Aromas of blown-out candle (a reductive, but positive style), lemon and wax. The palate was juicy and round with flavors of burned marshmallow crust, underripe pineapple and lemon curd. Nice balance, and this is drinking well now. Great complexity and energy here. |
