Distinct tannins, nice ripe fruit flavor but a little thin. Good acidity. This will be great with food. Good everyday Malbec but I would pay the few dollars more for the Bodega Colome every time. |

1/14/2010 - tantotinto wrote: 89 pointsServed at 46 degrees. Pale yellow color. Incredible nose. Boisterously floral with a a little raw cocoa. Very clean and sharp. Minimal if any oak influence. Pear flavor with a nice acidic finish. We had the Catena Alta a week ago and they are very different in style. The Alta is big and buttery. This is much cleaner and lighter. We had this bottle with shrimp scampi and unfortunately it was a little overmatched. The Alta would have stood up better to the butter and garlic. That doesn't mean this is not a good wine. We liked them both very much. If the occasion calls for flinty and clean, drink this bottle. If you prefer big and brash, select the Alta. |

5/2/2014 - tantotinto wrote: 88 pointsOpaque. Mineral and blackberry nose. Soft and plush on the palate which makes it an easy drinker but with enough acidity in the finish to keep it lively. Plum and blackberry flavor. More soothing than complex. I like it especially given the price. |

11/14/2010 - tantotinto wrote: 87 pointsTasted after a two hour decant. Royal purple color. Nose of mineral, cedar and crushed black and red fruit. The predominant flavor sensation is tart acidity. Pie cherry and cranberry fruit is restrained by comparison even after the decant. Not your typical Malbec. It is to most Malbecs as Bordeaux is to Napa. |

1/16/2013 - tantotinto wrote: 92 pointsFrom other's recent notes it would appear that there is considerable bottle variation in this wine. If so, I got lucky. This bottle has a quiet nose but great flavors of blackberry and dark cherry fruit, spice, and cedar. The fruit is intense but not pushy. About as suave as any Malbec that I have tasted. Excellent. |

10/19/2009 - tantotinto wrote: 87 pointsServed at 63 degrees. Cork disintegrated upon attempted extraction into fragments large and small. Aroma of ripe fruit, dust and cork (just kidding). Nice acidity with flavors of cherry and mocha. Fairly light texture and taste. Reminds me a bit of Chianti. Decent wine. |

1/8/2010 - tantotinto wrote: 91 pointsThis is just the second Argentine Chardonnay that we have tried. It is much better than the first. Pale gold color. A mouth-watering nose of opulent fruit. Medium texture, maybe even a tad creamy. Rich flavors of tropical fruit and spice (cinnamon?) with a hint of Creme Brule on the finish. There is a lot going on here. This is a big but nicely balanced wine. Very new world and very good if big is your style. |

9/3/2014 - tantotinto wrote: 90 pointsThis is excellent. Restrained nose but full on the palate. Rich dark cherry and blueberry flavored fruit that is superbly balanced by good acidity and minerality. It is fruit forward without being over the top or cloying. Loses a point for its lack of nuance. Not a thinking man's wine but gives great pleasure. I have no idea how time will treat this wine but it is good enough now to make that irrelevant for me. |

11/18/2015 - tantotinto wrote: 91 pointsSoft and mellow at this point. The fruit is less primary. Earth, cherries and dried figs with mulling spices. If not past its best it is at least very different. Still very good but not in the best spot for my palate. Last bottle but would not wait long if I had more. |

4/17/2013 - tantotinto wrote: 92 pointsConsistent with my previous note. "Good aromatics of ripe black fruit and earth. Rich blackberry, black cherry, oak and clove flavor. Plush texture and lip smacking acidity. The tannins have subsided considerably. Time hasn't added complexity so much as it has smoothed this wine. The fruit is still intense." Earth is a little more prominent and the fruit a bit more reserve than I recall from the last bottle but that is about it. A couple hours of air really opened it up. Excellent this evening with grilled lamb chops. |

Rich blackberry, black cherry, oak and clove flavour. Plush texture and lip smacking acidity. The tannins have subsided considerably. Time hasn't added compexity so much as it has smoothed this wine. The fruit is still intense but it goes down oh so well. I don't see a need to immediately consume additional bottles but I also see little to be gained from a further wait. Excelente! |

9/7/2009 - tantotinto wrote: 93 pointsGreat, full aroma of black fruit and spice. The tannins are still noticeable but less pronounced than I expected. They blend well with the fruit. The flavor is blackberry and black cherry with a bit of earthiness. This is subtle and balanced, smooth and elegant. Very sophisticated glass of Malbec. |

8/3/2009 - tantotinto wrote: 90 pointsA very full nose of lush red fruit and something else that is a bit funky. Perhaps mushrooms. The taste is a bouquet of rich fruit. Very full but not heavy. Tannins are still prominent but do not overpower. This will probably get more mellow with age but it is very drinkable now. This is the third vintage of Quimera that we have tasted. They haven't had a bad year yet. Very consistent and very good. We enjoy Malbecs but find that many of them really need food. This went well with a pot roast but it is also a very good standalone sipping wine. We did not finish the bottle the first evening and 24 hours later the fruit had faded significantly. |

3/2/2014 - tantotinto wrote: 90 pointsTasted immediately after opening and a decant. Deep crimson. Tobacco and ripe black fruit nose. Blackberry, graphite and herbal flavor. Good acidity and soft tannins. It all fits together very well. This is the third or fourth vintage of this blend that we have tried. It has been consistently enjoyable although always better after a few years in bottle. This bottle is clearly in its window. Very good. |

12/21/2011 - tantotinto wrote: 90 pointsTasted after a half-hour decant. This is the first bottle of this wine that we have opened in over two years and it is very different from the wine that I describled then. Opaque almost to the point of being black. Nice nose of plum, mineral and earth. It has mellowed considerably. Dark cherry fruit that is still intense but softer, the tannins very restrained and the finish smooth and long. Crackling acidity that made it a great match for this evening's pasta with a tomato and meat sauce. |

3/21/2013 - tantotinto wrote: 90 pointsFirst bottle that we have opened in over a year. My initial reaction was that is has grown a little tired. But that is not really true. It has mellowed and the fruit is more subdued and I cannot really say that it has added complexity. But it retains plenty of fruit and is very nicely balanced. Some no doubt prefered it young and others today. It is a matter of preference. My preference is probably for drinking it younger than it is today. |

1/18/2012 - tantotinto wrote: 88 pointsTasted immediately after opening. Bright purple. Earthy black cherry nose. Cherry and blackberry fruit flavor with balanced tannins and sparkling acidity. Medium wieght and plush mouth feel. Long finish. The rich fruit and acidity make this grape a winner at the table for me and this offering is no exception. It is great with this evening's pasta with spicy tomato and meat sauce. It is also attractively priced. |

12/23/2009 - tantotinto wrote: 88 pointsThis is a blend of 40% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Syrah. Opened and poured without decanting. Purple with a little more red than the typical 100% Malbec. Nice aromatics with dark, sweet cherries most prominent. Still quite tannic so more air and time in bottle would seem to be in order. Soft, rich blueberry and cherry flavor with a hint of clove. This is good but not so good as to displace Achaval-Ferrer Quimera as our favorite Malbec blend. |
