2002 Alois Kracher Scheurebe TBA #10 Zwischen den SeenNeusiedlersee more |
4/7/2014 - octopussy Likes this wine: 93 pointsChablis Les Clos night + an addictive and most impressive Scheurebe BA: Amber colour. In the nose, this smells like concentrated pear juice, there are some dried apricots as well, nutty notes, raisins, some botrytis. It's appealing, very appealing in fact. On the palate, this is concentrated, very sweet, oily, but it finishes with enough acidity, freshness and spiciness to not get one-dimensional. The finish is long. Very, very good in fact. |

12/28/2012 - octopussy Likes this wine: 94 pointsMountain Wine Tasting: Amber coloured. In the nose, there's toffee, some baked apple, caramell, bonfire and peach. Very pleasing and elegant. On the palate, it's oily and thick, very thick in fact, hardly goes down the throat, extreme sweetness, yet balanced by fresh acidity, extremely long, heavy like a 10 ton truck. A really extreme, but also extremely impressive wine. |

8/22/2010 - octopussy wrote: 89 pointsSecond bottle in one year. I still like it a lot. It had the same dark brooding colour as the last bottle. In the nose, there was a tiny bit of farmyard, cherries and blackberries. The tannins have softened a lot and the Zweigelt has made this super-silky. |

5/29/2013 - octopussy Does not like this wine: 79 points15 Cabernet Francs: Very dark and opaque black colour. In the nose, it stinks badly at first of lovage. This goes away and makes room for aromas of smoked ham, japanese soy sauce, malt coffee and blackberries. On the palate, it's thick, jammy, bitter and has massive walls of tannins with a texture of sandpaper. Bitter finish. Almost impossible to swallow. Too ambitious. |

5/29/2013 - octopussy wrote: 86 points15 Cabernet Francs: Dark blackish red, lighter nuances toward the edge of the glass. In the nose small black berries, some light overtones of raspberry. Interesting, appealing, not too seductive. On the palate, there are walls of strong tannins, covers the teeth, very tart, seems very young. Very nice acidity. Finishes medium long with red and black berries. Not sure about the further development, but if the fruit holds, this could be very good in four to six years. |

4/17/2018 - octopussy Likes this wine: 93 pointsRiesling Swag 2018 (Vlet Hamburg): Medium yellow colour. Awesome nose, very calm and balanced, nothing sticking out, still young, but with "hidden complexity", it's not obvious, but you can sense it. Herbs and spices. Also very well balanced in the mouth, deep minerality, good grip, fine acidity, great length on the earthy side again. A real pleasure to drink. |

4/17/2018 - octopussy Likes this wine: 91 pointsRiesling Swag 2018 (Vlet Hamburg): Medium yellow. Complex nose of warm earth and exotic spices such as cloves and cinnamon, a touch of honey, maybe some botrytis. Good texture in the mouth, quite fresh acidity, a bit lighter than 2010 and 2004 drank alongside, good length. |

4/17/2018 - octopussy Likes this wine: 90 pointsRiesling Swag 2018 (Vlet Hamburg): Medium yellow. Earthy and spicy nose, warm earth, a bit of baked apple and peach. Quite dense in the mouth, medium acidity, grippy texture, good length. |

2000 Nikolaihof Riesling VinothekWachau more |
4/17/2018 - octopussy Likes this wine: 94 pointsRiesling Swag 2018 (Vlet Hamburg): Medium yellow. A very unique and Riesling untypical nose, a bit like other Nikolaihof Rieslings I've had. It's ultra perfumed and floral with notes of hibiscus, lilies and chrysanthemes, some raspberry and whipped cream on top of it. High pitched and somewhat weird, but very agreeable. In the mouth, it's dense and concentrated, but ultimately quite light, it dances around, it's somewhat airy. A very individualistic style, but I love it. |

4/17/2018 - octopussy wrote: 89 pointsRiesling Swag 2018 (Vlet Hamburg): Medium yellow. Quite nice nose, some petrol, some wet earth, fresh cut mushrooms. In the mouth, it's quite soft in acidity, but has good density and structure, a bit grainy in texture, lacks traction in the finish, but drinks quite well, really. |

9/22/2016 - octopussy Likes this wine: 93 pointsMedium yellow color. The nose was very sulphury and reductive and muted at first and the wine needed a longer decant and a good half hour in the glass to show what it had. Then you had aromas of dried pear, crushed rock and quince as well as freshly cut mushrooms. In the mouth, I liked it much better than in the nose, it was really silky in texture, well structured, dense, but not heavy and very very long. |

4/17/2018 - octopussy Likes this wine: 91 pointsRiesling Swag 2018 (Vlet Hamburg): ~ 8 g/l residual sugar. Light to medium yellow colour. In the nose, this still seems very young, it's tight and a bit restrained, but it shows nice notes of funk, white fruit, flowers and green herbs. In the mouth, it tastes drier than it is, it's also quite tight, the acidity is well integrated, it's very structured and does not yet seem to unleash its full potential. |

2007 Tement Sauvignon Blanc Steirische KlassikStyria more |
6/23/2010 - octopussy wrote: 88 pointsVery pale colour. But an incredibly good and juicy Sauvignon nose with green peppers, gosseberry and fresh cut grass. This continues on the palate. If you want a modern Sauvignon Blanc in the New Zealand style, this is it for a good price. |

5/15/2011 - octopussy wrote: 87 pointsLight yellow. In the nose, a lot of grapefruit, some yellow bell pepper, gooseberry and some flintstone. On the palate, it's quite forceful, a bit oily with again a lot of grapefruit, rather thin bodied in the middle with a long finish that is slightly alcoholic. I find this a bit too forced. The Sauvignon Blanc Steierische Klassik from Tement from the same year was more laid back. |

9/1/2014 - octopussy wrote: NRPinot Night: Deep golden yellow. In the nose, this seemed a bit over the hill at first with smashed apple and oxidative notes. With some air it got more and more agreeable, the oxidative notes retreated and honey, lime blossoms and ripe, but fresh apple notes showed. On the palate, it seemed a bit over the hill at first as well, a bit austere, with a hole in the middle, bone dry and dusty. Also here, air helps and gave the wine some volume, the acidity is fairly mild, honey notes also show in the mouth. Bitter notes in the finish. This was ok, but I didn't get crazy over it. |

10/29/2012 - octopussy wrote: 98 pointsAmber coloured. In the nose, it has apple, apple cake, roasted hazelnuts, some yeast. Wonderful, very clear, warm and cold. Makes me shiver. On the palate, it has a very clear and pure acidity and sweetness. So expressive and so pure. Like an icy mountain stream. Equally fantastic as the 2007. |

6/9/2013 - octopussy Likes this wine: 91 points8 g/l acidity, 114 g/l residual sugar. Medium golden yellow. In the nose, at first this is entirely fruitless, rather mushroomy, but then it gets warm with grilled charentais melon and quince. Very baroque. On the palate, it's oily, thick with beautiful melon aromas of all sorts. Very sweet, but the sweetness is held in check by the fairly fresh acidity. Very impressive and written in bold letters, but do I want to drink more than one half glass of this? |

6/9/2013 - octopussy Likes this wine: 91 points7.2 g/l acidity, 8 g/l residual sugar. Light golden yellow. In the nose, this first seems a little oxidative with ripe apple, nuts, some pear and hints of petrol. There are some light floral high pitched notes that give the wine a breezy aspect. On the palate, this is chalky, quite complex and rather restrained, quite clear and precise within the context of the vintage. Spreads out nicely in the long finish. The antithesis to the Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain. |

2010 Albert Boxler Gewurztraminer ReserveAlsace Gewürztraminer more |
3/8/2013 - octopussy Likes this wine: 90 pointsMedium yellow-golden colour. In the nose typical for the variety with Pain d'épices, in particular some cinnamon and vanilla, ripe banana and a note reminding of concentrated grapefruit juice, some litchi, nutmeg and floral notes. Requires temperature to open up. On the palate, it's prominently sweet, very thick and oily, not that fresh, but with nice salty minerality. The finish is rather dry, slightly bitter and brownish (reminiscent of caramelized sugar). Very complex. Better to drink on its own than with food. This needs close attention. |

11/3/2010 - octopussy wrote: 87 pointsThis wine was served with a piece of Fontina, which was an excellent match. It's a very typical Gewürztraminer with a touch of honey, orange zests, mangos and apricots in the nose. On the palate, it could have a tad more acidity to balance the sweetness. But especially in combination with the salty Fontina, this was a winner. |

7/28/2010 - octopussy wrote: 83 pointsImmediately after opening the bottle it had a very nice, sweet and strong smell of apricots, which got a little less obvious with time. The colour is a very pale and cloudy yellow as if it the wine unfiltered. In the nose, there are hints of apricot, flowers and peach. On the palate it is mineralic, but not very aromatic. I have definitely drunk better Muscats at much better prices. |
