2007 Urraca Familia Langley

Notes 90 min after opening.

Color: Purplish red with a bare hint of brown. The wine is opaque with some very fine sediment.

Nose:
Him: fresh red currants and raspberry perhaps a hint of marinara sauce. A bit of stone and some vanilla or coffee. I sense some alcohol or other volatiles as well

Her: prosciutto, pear, dried fig and a little bit of coffee on the end. Perhaps some chocolate.

Palate:
Him: There is a restaurant I know that serves a blueberry ketchup. This tastes like that. Bright tomato, hint of blueberry, some rice vinegar, a hint of apple cider vinegar that resolves into a hard apple cider finish.

Her: a rather strange combination of marinara sauce and raspberry chocolate. The nose is much more interesting and pleasing overall. Not a bad wine, but certainly not a sipping wine

Overall: This wine was not showing great without food. It doesn't seem to be flawed, nor does it have any glaring deficiencies... It just isn't that interesting or that good. This comes across as an experiment by a good winemaker rather than a well made wine.

Vile. They were trying to make a wine with complexity but failed and ended with a wine that is not commercially sound. I like penfolds but not down at this level.

I loved their GSM blend but this was purely pedestrian for a Shiraz. Even after it opened up it was fairly simple. Chocolate and candied cherries. Poor QPR at $30

Wonderful aged character.

Tasted like tomato sauce. Great acidity, a touch of bay, fennel, and other herbs. Still has some tannin. Quite good, not great

The oldest Shiraz I have tried.

The balance between fruit and bottle character was great. Served after an hour open there was a cherry raspberry fruit flavor backed by bottle spice and smokiness. After an additional hour the wine seemed to be a bit peaked and took on some acid is oxidative character.

I recommend drinking up and do this as a pop and pour waiting only long enough for the bottle funk to blow off.

Pop, vinturi, one hour in decanter

Color: deep deep red with a touch of brown or orange.

Nose: cherry, bitter almond, vanilla and sassafras

Palate: bold cherry of course but also ( strange but tasty and true) the acidity and touch of flavor of a fresh kiwi. This blends into dried blueberry, black currant and finishes into a slight bitterness followed by a LONG butterscotch finish (finish diminished into a medium vanilla finish by 2 hours later)

Feel: medium+ body. Tannins medium quantity, soft and chalky

I didn't like this bottle as well as my last one. The wine was very well concentrated but as it opened the fruit never resolved past the tannins. I plan to keep the rest of my bottles for another 5+ years before opening another. I feel that this one is asleep.

I am shocked to see this listed as a vintage of Balmoral. At the Cellar door Rosemont was pouring the '06 and the '07 was available as a cleanskin because it did not make the grade. I do not know what the previous commenter was drinking.

Popped and poured through a vinturi, compared notes after sitting for an hour, the same.

Color: Deep almost opaque Garnet

Nose: Blackberry, Dried Plum, Violets, hint of ethanol/eucalyptus

Flavor: Ripe purple fruits upfront and continuing through the middle. Spices - white pepper and licorice the fruits and this all disolves into a plesant mochga carmel finish.

Feel: Medium to low acidity, barest hint of tannin.

Overall - smooth, deep, rich. Can be enjoyed on its own or with something mild. Can go well with deserts too I'd bet

Twist and pour. Room temp

Deeply colored, opaque. Red with a faint orange hue. Not a clear wine.

Not much on the nose. Some mid red fruit and some oakyness, slightly musty

Flavors: red fruit with acid and woodiness followed quickly by vanilla and licorice. Some alcohol flavor on the finish ( think vanilla extract )

Perfectly drinkable at $9 per bottle. Nothing to rave about. Decent qpr

I liked this bottle better than before, slightly.

As it ages, it is loosing a bit of fruit but picking up more nuanced flavors. There is some tobacco or leather settling in and I didn't taste any of the bitterness I recalled from earlier.

No quantitative notes.

This wine is very tightly wound right now. I opened this and ran it through a vinturi and it was still far from open. There is a significant amount of concentration here (for a $25 wine).

The wine is a deep black/purple hue. The nose is not terribly giving at this point. Flavors are of dark berries wound tightly with spice and oak. Tannins are significant for a Shiraz.

This wine was still less than pleasant after a day under vacuum and refrigerator. It took a 2nd day before the wine smoothed out, unfortunately the fruit was passing at that point.

I bet this is a fantastic wine in.... 2016

I'll give it an 89 for potential, drinking 86 now.

The wine looks Crimson colored.
It smells like Cranberry, Red Currant, and Oak.
It tastes like Red Currant, and Black Pepper.
The body is Medium.
The wine is textured Coarse.
The wine finishes Long.

With a high acicdity and lots of tannin on the finish, I expect this one to age well. Buy it and try it in 2015

Color: garnet. Good clarity, medium concentration.

Nose: not huge but bright purple berries tinged with mint

Palate: big purple berries and dust. Big up front but short profile as a whole.

Feel:medium body. Short. This wine opens beautifully with bright berries backed with mouthwatering acidity then fairly abruptly drops and fades out leaving you wanting on the finish.

purplish with a bit of floating cork (on a 18 month old bottle)

This is the second of 2 bottles from Bevmo

The nose is akin to taking a bite from a slightly under-ripe plum with a bit of alcohol as well. Definitely some oak here though at this price point it is probably shavings.

Not much acid at all, the taste rolls onto the tongue with dark fruits, blueberry and prune. There are light but sharp tannins, probably american oak. Not enough tannins to age but those that are there are sharp. Horrible amounts of vanilla and a detectable sweetness.

This bottle isn't as much swill as my last one, but this still is not my kind of wine. This is on par with 2 buck chuck.
