Hints of Sonoma yeast on nose. What?! Green mouth. Flat. Boring. Aerating slightly improves this. Much improved when paired with bourbon balls and inebriation! ;-p

For $15/bottle at a wine bar this is great. Big fruit and yeast nose. Nice fruity mouth but shy of a fruit bomb. A bit of acid, but not too much, enough for food or could just be a drinkin' wine.

Dark black cherry red with a little tinge of brick at the edge. Yeast and rubbing alcohol nose with slight hints of fruit. Black cherry and dusty prairie on the mouth. I see why so many Germans like this. It's very austere.

Popped and poured, nose a little tight but surprised me by not tasting quite so. Quickly settled down, but a pass through the vinturi really helped out! Suddenly the oak shone through and, what's that? A hint of firecrackers? or is that the pencil lead I'm always hearing about? There's some really interesting, odd, vaguely familiar aroma coming through after about an hour. What IS that??? It's mildly vegetal and chemical, not really like, but reminds me of turpentine and oil paints when I was learning to paint as a kid. I want to say Toluene, but just can't nail it. Maybe just a very very muted oil refinery... Oh well, it's gone now. Really settled down to Irish grazing pasture. I need to stop smelling this and DRINK it! ;-) ... and I need to learn how to describe tastes better. It's nice though. Very nice for the UNDER $10 this sold for at CostCo!

Day2: The tannins and alcohol settled down but, alas, the fruit seems to have gone with them. Drinkable, but not as interesting, almost lifeless. Dry, dusty, still some hints of earthiness, probably the yeast. meh.

Slight urinal nose which, thankfully, abated, leaving what I would swear is Sonoma yeast! Dry and dusty. Not a lot going on, but nice enough. High acid makes this a great pair with Boeuf Bourguignon and scalloped potatoes!
