I don't really want to give this a point score as it was too young ... but promises great things. A huge wine with loads of fruit and a 30+ second finish; mouthfilling texture, demands attention. A few more years in bottle and this could be another '03 Aieul!

I loved this at the Domaine last fall and this bottle was no different. Decanted for several hours prior to drinking. A huge nose of melted graphite, charcoal, and blackberry liqueur. Almost like a Grenock Creek in scale for its nose. On the palate, it had great density and structure, but not seeming too brawny. Like a finely tuned athlete on full throttle this wine. Over time it rounded out to add a bit of rasberry fruit to its otherwise black hole abbyss of dark berries. Truly a massive, very well balanced wine, that has me completely enamored (as someone who tends not to like wooded CdP). I wil lhide the rest of my bottles for at least 5 (probably ten) more years. Brilliant. 95+pts

Notes from a half glass that my wife brought home after a tasting. Color is red to light purple. Nose was a little restrained at this stage with blackberry, blueberry, graphite, herbs, and a touch of spice. On the palate there was blackberry, lavender, meat, tobacco leaf, white pepper. The finish is long, the mouthwatering acidity was nice and the tannins were high quality, the mouthfeel was exceptional, and there is nice balance overall to this wine that is very well made and has decades to go. What a treat. Hold. 50+5+12+19+9

hello. what a poster child for why i like CdP, and why even though a wine may be young, you can still ascertain it's long term potential. this is a beautifully balanced, nuanced blockbuster in the making. if the 07 is better than this...god bless. hold. 95+

Wow, what a blockbuster. Decanted 5 hours and then it was still tight as a drum. Only when we had serious food alongside, was it somewhat approachable. Liquorice, black currant, pepper, tobacco, chocolate etc. Long aftertaste. Lots of good tannins. Had the 2006 not too long ago, and that was more approachable than the 05. This shall be interesting to follow. Love this wine...

Dinner at La Foret, veal with mushrooms for the birthday girl; elk medallions in cognac reduction sauce for her date. Beautiful nose of mixed berries. Big mouth feel with caramel and brandy notes. Loooong finish . Drink up or hold another couple.

Weekly tasting group #145; Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2005 (@ VD): Beautiful and concentrated bouquet with explicit ripe blueberries and blackberries, vanilla and coffee. Same on the palate with beautiful spiciness, sweet licorice and a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. Soft and round tannin with still a beautiful bite. Early maturity now and potential until 2020+.

Medium to dark red; nice agreeable nose, red fruit; lean balanced attack, notes of licorice, lots of it actually, more on the lean than powerful side (good!), some tannins crowding the teeth at the end, however without disturbing taste; well made, very good

Uncorked DK: Chateauneuf 2005 Report: Dark purple core. Another wine with intense dark forrest berries - this time very pure. It's spicy, meaty and big. Great and enjoyable, but as with the Cristia VV I miss some CNDP typicity to set it apart.

Beautiful bouquet with a lot of ripe fruits e.g. good cherries. On the palate also a lot of black as well as red forest fruits, hidden spices, and a lot of good sweetness and acidity in a beautiful balance. A lot of bitterness. Concentrated and refined wine which needs at least another 3 - 4 years and will offer beautiful drinking much longer. 93+

Nose of blueberries, cocoa powder, spices, yoghurt and a hint of acetone.
The palate was full bodied with blue fruit and also a hint of red cherry fruit and licorice. Very tannic. Also fine acidity. This wine really has a lot of dry extract. While there is still a lot of tannic structure, the fruit however seems to be aproaching maturity, so i am not sure about it's aging potential, but it should last for 5-10 more years.

Without using ingenious spicy phrases let me evaluate la Reine des Bois 2005 as a wine of ripeness and big fruit. Do not think he is getting even better. Drink now and watch him developping in the glas during dinner. Decant him for one hour.

Do yourself a favor and give it some air. Ninty minutes minimum and 2 hours would be ideal. Deep, robust and willing to give you its essence of dark fruit, tar and bramble. This dark brooding wine will cellar another decade, however its reaching its prime and will strut it stuff. Enjoy!

Brought to Walter's to watch football and enjoy food. Decanted 2-3 hours prior to serving. Dark red in color. Herbs , (particularly thyme), spices and black fruit on the nose. In the mouth, boysenberries, licorice black pepper and that typical CdP garrigue. Delicious wine with a good finish. Perhaps not as good as the wonderful 1998 version of this I had a few years ago, but an excellent wine nonetheless.

92 pts

Significantly better than my last bottle.

I find bottle variation, particularly prevalent in the Rhône, a source of frustration and occasional joy.

Perhaps the above is part of the reason why we all love wine i.e. we secretly enjoy the uncertainty

This bottle was terrific and, whilst still a step behind the 07, it is classic Cndp on the nose and on the palate.

Unmistakably from its terroir.

It is unsubtle and quite powerful and full of earth, cherries, raspberries with a long finish.

I sincerely hope the rest of the case are like this bottle and not the previous bottle.

Kleur: Diep donkerrood, opvallend donker voor een Ch9dP. Aroma / bouquet: Een opvallend 'donker' bouquet met sterk tertiaire aroma's. Stoere Ch9dP, donker fruit, zoetige kruiderij, zacht zoete drop.

Color: Deep dark red, strikingly dark for a Ch9dP. Aroma / bouquet: A striking 'dark' bouquet with strong tertiary aromas. Tough Ch9dP, dark fruit, sweetish condiment, soft sweet licorice. Taste / Finish: The impression on the palate is that of a buttery soft wine. Then the wine shows its more tough and dark character. Full of beautifully matured tannins with a pleasant and subtle drying bitter in the final. General / Potential: As far as I'm concerned, this wine is currently much closer to its expiration date than WA indicates. Drink now and don't leave it until after 2020. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Taste / Finish: 17 + General / potential: 8 = 92/100

Quite nice at this stage. I'm used to MRDB bring over the top, but this wine is dark ruby in color, not black, of normal viscosity, not oily. Nose is fragrant with floral notes, black raspberries, melted tar, violets. Flavorful yet not over extracted, with good acidity and soft tannins. Long, mineral driven finish.
