Big and bold. Unashamedly modern and super-plush. Deep inky plummy fruit, spicebox, vaillapods and a touch of hoisin.... all wonderfully backed-up and balanced by only a pinch of Italian acidity.
Must admit I liked this better than expected...!

Bordeaux 2004 - an overview (Restaurant Bottles, Sas van Gent): This is really beautiful. Seems Merlot-dominated to me: plumcake, strawberry-yoghurt. Some astringency in the back, elegant woody aromas of treebark, undergrowth and cedar. Long, persistent finish. Very, very pretty! 18,5/20 (groups scores: 90-96)

6/12/2013 1:17:00 PM - Maybe, yes. I don't think it is a 30-year-wine, which recent vintages of LeoBarton usually are. It's an elegant (perhaps even feminine?) wine that will provide excellent drinking now and in the following 5 years. It's definately a member of the "class of 2004" and I really like this class.

Bordeaux 2004 - an overview (Restaurant Bottles, Sas van Gent): Traditional countryside nose, barnyard, cured meats, grilled vegetables, forestfruit, damp earth. Nicely balanced and persuasive. Could use a tad more thickness and structure. 17.5-18/20 (group scores: 91-94)

    6/4/2013 4:11:00 AM - Hi Harley1199,
One of our conclusions was that lots of Bordeaux from this vintage are drinking beautifully right now, although they need a proper decant.
The higher end wines are still quite closed and not giving very much. But, my guess is that they are opening up in the next 2-3 years. After all, we were very enthusiastic about these wines!
    Cheers, jkoenen
