Richer on the nose, more layered and rich on the palate. The regular bottling is the better QPR, but this one is the better of the two. This is my first exposure to Haywood. I really enjoy the style, which is a throwback to the way wine used to be made. Can't remember the last time I had a 14.5% Zin! Unlike some of the recent Zins I've had, there is no "too hot, too heavy, too much" in this wine. Nicely balanced in an elegant style. |

3/23/2018 - ellars Likes this wine: 92 points92: I don't know if I have ever had such a smooth Zinfandel! Extra age has mellowed the tannins and left an amazing mix of flavors. This drank fantastic right out of the bottle. The aroma offers a hint of the terroir that rests just below the dominant fruit. Easy mouthfeel. Beautiful dark red-purple color with no hint of browning. Hard to believe that the CT "drink by" date was 4 years ago. If you still have a bottle, and you've been storing it well, give this a chance. And if you happen to stumble across a dusty bottle in a back shelf of a store somewhere, buy it! |

I had no idea a zin would last 8 years, but this wine is still strong and elegant and has the perfect amount of spice that a great zin offers. Right out of the bottle without decanting this wine is smooth and drinkable. I'd say there is one more year left on this wine, but I would drink now. |

10/6/2011 - sedation (yellowgas) wrote: 92 pointsa really good zinfandel. Ruby in color that looked much younger. impeccably balanced wine with fruit, spicy pepper, oak and tannins coming together beautifully. this is one of those times when i wish i had the foresight to buy a whole bunch, but alas it was a one off. |

7/19/2008 - Bacchant wrote: 92 pointsDeep garnet color with ruby rim. A powerful nose of dark fruit, spice, & appreciable oak. Extraordinarily balanced on the palate. All the dark fruit [plums, blackberries, & cherries], creamy oak, brown spices, & vibrant acidity are all integrated very well; no single component is more pronounced than any other. Still drinking exceptionally well for a `97. [14.5% abv.; $15 (an absolute steal!)]. |
