9/8/2020 - Lipsman Likes this wine: 97 pointsIt is so frustratingly rare to find a grand cru that actually tastes like a grand cru. This Potel Beze is altogether remarkable from the aroma right through to the exquisite, long palate. It starts with enticing aromas of dark candied strawberries. The flavors are extraordinary, sexy dark cherries, fresh strawberry acidity, supple licorice, all deeply saturated, and a clean finish. This is a powerhouse of satisfaction. Showing some bricking at the edge. |

6/15/2013 - JamesTye Likes this wine: 97 pointsFrom 750ml. Served at the Orrery in London. Decanted and served immediately. Colour was golden yellow, shot through with a youthful green tinge. Bright and clear. Nose was initially a little muted, some lemon, minerals a whiff of butter. The true brilliance of this wine was revealed on tasting. An initial seam of rich minerality was just the start of this wine on the palate. Layer after layer of lemon, lime, a roaring midpalate and a wonderful, long and buttery finish. Incerdibly vibrant and complex with a vein of balanced acidity. Developed even further flavours as it warmed and opened up. |

7/24/2015 - wineforth Likes this wine: 97 pointsWith Sandy, the best red Burgundy I've had in years. Complex nose of violets, liquorice, mature raspberries, and a hint of mushroom, medium weight (for a Bordeaux drinker), silky smooth yet with good backbone and great length. Will develop further |

10/26/2019 - brh_wine Likes this wine: 97 pointsStraw hay color and refined nose. Wine is in great shape, subtle hints of butter typical of Meursault and perfectly balanced. Hard to imagine this can get better from here but amazingly good compared to other 04 and 02s. |

5/22/2012 - Paul S wrote: 96 points2010 Maison Roche de Bellene / Nicolas Potel Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): A brilliant Richebourg. This was one of two favourites on the night (the other being a knockout 2010 Clos de Beze). Here, we had the essence of Vosne on the nose, with earthy, meaty, umami inflections swirling around a beautiful dark fruited core with wonderful layers of wood spice bringing up the rear. While it did not have the aromatic fireworks of either the Clos de Beze or the Romanee St. Vivant on the same flight, this was still very attractive in a rather more masculine, earthy manner. The palate, on the other hand, was amazing - quite batting the RSV out of the park. Perfectly integrated, beautiful balanced, it unfolded in wonderfully deep, inexorable layers of sour plums, dark cherries and blueberries, all with ringing with a startling purity. Yet for all that lithe, bright clarity, it had such a solid, powerful core, almost voluminous in its depth - a true iron fist in a velvet glove, indeed even more so here than on the 2002 Bonnes Mares. From a magnun and at 11 years of age, it was at a wonderful place, resolved into an perfect whole. The finish was brilliant too, pulling away into a deep, resounding mouthful of plums and dried cherries flecked with hints of earth and a kiss of spice that just went on and on and on. A profound wine - I can still taste it in my head even now. |

9/5/2020 - jgreco Likes this wine: 96 pointsThe 2006 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is a very masculine expression of Pinot Noir. Bramble fruits, licorice, menthol, and Christmas spices. Full bodied with powerful tannins that are have this fantastic fine grained texture. You can drink this today, but it has a very long life ahead of it. |

Excellent concentration, and bright fruit - raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and blackberry. Very long finish, with beautiful layering. Sensational, one of the finest red burgundy wines I have had. Never expected this wine to be this superb. |

5/30/2019 - HWgeek wrote: 96 pointsThis has aged well, ironically it was worse aerating it. After it sat another 15 min after aeration it came together. Its more delicate than back in 2016. Not sure I would say its done, but it certainly is drinking well now. The nose was a bit more muted, however both vanilla and spice were evident. Still velvet smooth on the palate with a complex but light flavor of fruit, liqorice, raspberries and other red berries. Very well integrated with a smooth long finish that highlights the wine. |

12/24/2014 - neilemc Likes this wine: 96 pointsViscous garnet fading at the rim. Complex, foresty nose - wild berries, pine needles, menthol, almost juniper, with tertiary licorice root and white pepper. With air the medicinal notes quickly evaporate, leaving concentrated strawberry fruit perfectly balanced with ripe acidity and gentle tannins. Like the best pinots this has layers of flavor that go on and on. Maybe this can get better but it's pretty irresistible now! |

We PnP the first glass, not overly tight, however more notes came forth after 30 minutes of airing for the second glass. |

Velvet smooth with a complex gentle taste of fruits, liquorice, raspberries and other red berries. Grand finesse and elegance. We aired it for two hours – big difference, much needed. The year 2003 is supposedly not a great one for cote de nuits but this producer’s was perhaps the exception. Enjoyed to boeuf bourguignon. |

5/28/2008 - Paul S wrote: 96 pointsConfrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore, Potel Tasting. (Harbour Grill, Hilton Hotel, Singapore): I knew this was something special from the first swirl and sniff. Quite simply one of the best white wines I have ever had. Sometimes a wine just belies description, same problem I had with the 2002 DRC Romanee St Vivant, but I shall try. Nice golden straw colour. Super complex nose (my notes say "Wow! lovely, lovely, lovely!), with bright, melony fruit, bread, nuts and vanilla. It got sweeter and more open with time in the glass, taking on lemon custard, yeasty notes and a nice streak of minerality. The palate was wide, creamy and fleshy with super-rich, concentrated mouthfilling flavours. Layers and layers of flavour in fact - butter, lemon custard, citrus notes, a bit of pineapple, and a super super long finish full of fruit and a wonderful hint of minerals. This certainly blew the Corton Charlemagne that was tasted next out of the water. There was just a flush of heat from the rather high alcohol content, but everything was nicely balanced with moutwatering acid and fantastic structure. This needs time, quite a lot of it, but so delicious even now. Magnificent. |

7/24/2010 - Charlie Carnes wrote: 96 pointsWhat an amazing wine. I was instantly compelled by the 'Morey' cherry red tar and the red to purple fruit. A very complex and cheery(not cherry) nose of demi glas and sauteed cherries drifting and wafting from mostly red to slightly purple. Amazing depth here with a little complexity and hinting at more when the wine will be older. Awesome! I got to drink 3/4 of the bottle over a three hour period, I audouzed half and the wine guy-my buddy- talked me into decanting the other half. I thought the in-bottle wine did slightly better. Oh well, no need to hurry on these, but the restaurant price tonight was what I paid for a bottle at retail so I couldn't resist. |
