3/12/2009 - elevation02 wrote: 92 pointsJust got home from Boston where in addition to seeing a Celtics game, a Boston College Game and visiting a great high school, I found some GREAT wine. One of which was a lovely Pinot from California called "Writer's Block". This was a nice, light colour (old brick) and smelled of cotton candy or, perhaps, those candied fruit Laura Secord always sells. I also got a lot of sugar and spice on the nose. On the palate we had jammy fruit flavors (definite raspberries) and lots of leather. The tannins were so soft that I had to stop from gulping it...not would that not have been a wine faux pas! Nice finish on this wine which opened up considerably as the night progressed. |

6/1/2015 - woody57 Likes this wine: 92 pointsdifficult to pin now the nose but there was some sweet grass and wheat along with the fruit; the palate included herbs and pepper with a hint of beef broth; the finish was medium in duration and the fruit came through more dominantly there; we loved this wine; a pleasant surprise to find in the back of the cellar; hard to tell if it would do well with more storing but we enjoyed it now |

6/2/2012 - gb1406 wrote: 91 pointsThere was nothing to this wine when the bottle first first opened straight out of the fridge - BUT once it had warmed a little it was exquisite! Typical young Hunter Sem aromas - grassy, some citrus and melon. Same to taste, sharp, lots of acid. This is great to drink now and will be a cracka in 4-5 years. |

8/1/2014 - DStone Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis was a surprise wine. We had 16 bottles of wine, 8 different varietals to include a Grenache-based Chateauneuf-du-Pape and this Amerian Malbec was the choice as the best wine of the night! Very smooth and deep. Definitely buy a case of this wine. |

8/10/2019 - sjw_11 wrote: 90 pointsVery hard to rate right now. Despite being 8 years old this is almost unbearably youthful. Still very pale and flecked with green. Sure there is a touch of citrus and toast on the nose, but the palate still has lashings of searing acidity. Quite sharp and angular. I suspect this will outlive us all. If it comes together this will be a legend. |

4/20/2018 - isaacjamesbaker wrote: 90 pointsWriter's Block Wines: Light gold color. Bright aromas of apricot, nectarine, lime, a brighter aromatic approach than I usually get from this grape, but also some nougat, honeyed tea, chalk dust elements. Rich texture on the palate, this is a creamy but zesty and crisp wine. Apricots, green apples and pears, nectarine, topped in raw almond, honey, chalk dust and white tea. Delicious but also complex and a steal at this price. The freshness of this wine is crazy when compared with so many honeyed, oily California Roussannes (many of which I love), but this is a very crisp example. Sourced exclusively from Las Lomas vineyard, which sits in sandy soils at 1,500+ feet elevation. The wine is aged nine months in oak, 20% new. |
