VACATION TO MARTHA'S VINEYARD; 9/13/2010-9/18/2010 (BALTIMORE, MD/MARTHA'S VINEYARD/ATLANTIC CITY): Normaly I would rate this 90 pts, however on this occasion, due to the company of my childhood friend Steve and his fiance' Joni this bottle shined much like the aura that surrounded them. The world would be a better place if there were more people like them in it. A final toast to the two of them,
"LONG MAY THEY BE HAPPY" As for the wine fruity smooth and enjoyable.

Anniversary champagne in Paris, paired nicely with the women I have been married to for 37 years. 100 points for the marriage, the ambience and romance of Paris, 91 points for the actual champagne which was quite good in itself, very dry, low acidity, raspberry, kiwifruit, strawberries, slate and a lovely finish. Purchased this at a local wine shop for 21 euros steps away from our hotel. Consumed on the 17th floor overlooking the Eiffel Tower, the Seine river and Notre dame, does not get much more romantic than that.

Saturday night 11/14 @ the Rev's house (New London, PA): A big powerfull mouton, with intense currant, cassis, chocolate, plum and toasty oak. Massive yet somehow balanced, seams much more youthfull than any of its couterparts in this tasting. This is the way I like my bordeaux, almost new world without crossing the line. Bravo!

Got a small taste of this while visiting a friend, who had decanted this for 24hrs, poured back into bottle and left in his cellar for a week.
A massive, rich port, with loads of blackberries, dark plums, dried currants, expresso, dark chocolate, some heat, but in check.
Agree with previous taster, this could prove to be one of those ports that will talked about for decades to come as a reference for great vp! 98+

I have been collecting, tasting and drinking fine wine since 1980, back when wine was mostly esoteric. I was quite interested in Sauternes and Trockenbeerenauslese in particular. Later my interest declined for stickies but I still had a number of them cellared and it had been awhile since I had one.
This bottle was given to me by a very good friend back in the early part of this century and to be honest I knew little about it.
From a 500ml bottle lightly chilled, this bottle was amazing, @ 13% ABV it was quite dry and full of luscious aromas, with a palate of orange, cassis, raspberry, cherry, hints of botrytis, previous taster mentioned Yquem like flavors and I agree, acidity was low but everything else was in perfect balance. Tremendous!

Decanted 1hr. I don't give out wow factor scores often, this bottle certainly deserve this honor. For my wife's 50th birthday served with roast duck breast in a currant sauce. Incrediable richness, concentration and structure, complex flavors of currant, plum, cassis, coffee, vanilla, cacao and just the right amount oak, all perfectly balance, with a finish that went on and on. This Mt. Veeder cab reminds me of why I love napa cabernets. I believe this wine has the structure to age and improved for several more years and last for 10+ yrs." Bravo"

Decanted for 2hours, for some reason Mr. Big thought highly of the 03 vintage, from my personal experience I was never quite as enthused as Mr Big, however this Monte Bello was incredible as it is rare for me to break the 95 point mark but this baby once called the poor mans Latour is quite deserving.
Incredible balance from the floral nose to the smooth enticing finish, nearly perfect in every way, so elegant like the iron fist in the velvet glove. Violets, dark cherry, raspberry, menthol cranberry, cola, pine, so complex, just lovey, with plenty of life left.
Accordingly to the bottle this was bottled 8/05, I have had it laying in the exact location in my personal cellar since 2007.

Decanted 1hr, WOW, this is good, maybe even better than the 04 & 05(which are incrediable) Very rich, extracted, blackberry, licorice, dark chocolate in the nose. Intense dark fruit on the palate with hints of licorice, coffee, chocolate and vanilla, all in perfect balance, with no heat or candied sweetness, I find in so many Aussie wines. Very long finish that makes you smack your lips and go back for more. Is there a better Aussie shiraz, not for the money!! The folks at Thorne Clarke sure no what they are doing with this grape. WOTN, Bravo!!!

Decanted 1 hour with moderate sediment. Very nice, complex Aussie cab, rich and concentrated, full of dark fruit, smoky, cedar nose, some lovely tartness to the fruit adding to the complexity, has the structure as well as the track record to hold and possibly improve for several years. Paired nicely with cask iron seared filets!

Saturday night 11/14 @ the Rev's house (New London, PA): The nose was earthy, like scorched earth, with a little smoke. On the palate sweet cherries, tobacco, plum, vanilla and cedar. Lighter, less concentrated and showing its age more than any of the other 82's in the tasting. Still quite good and holding its own.

Decanted 1.5 hours, then poured 2 glasses at the dinner table, it is worth noting a couple of unusual factors. The ulledge was exactly how I remember when first purchased back in 2003, in fact, cork was tight, dry, and looked like it was bottled yesterday, extraction was easy using the rabbit, even more amazing was that there was near zero sediment. One last thing this bottle has not move from its very cool cellar location since 2003. That being said, this Bordeaux was as expected fabulous, showing off the best qualities that this so so vintage has to offer. Classic graphite/pencil shavings, slate, cedar, cigar box, balanced by complex flavors of plum, cherry, currants, cassis, smooth, integrated tannins awesome structure suggesting this will hold for 10 maybe 20 more years in a cool consistent evioroment. Paired with charcoal grilled rack of lamb, this was a near perfect pairing as I have ever had. One final note, this special culinary expirence was in celebration of my wife and I 34th anniversary of our marriage which is proably more amazing than I or she could ever imagined!!!!

New years eve dinner, had with chicken crep's normandy. Wow, this had a great nose, like a bouguet a flowers. Loads of apple, citrus, stone and a nice touch of lemon zest. Very long finish that lasted a full 30 seconds. Went perfectly with dinner as the acidty of the wine and the sweetness of the nomandy sauce were a perfect match. Would love to try this again in 2015, thanks John for this beauty.
